Pyrat XO Reserve

With a higher content of 40 year rum, the Diamond John Dore high ester still really stands out. Not as smooth as the Cask 1623, but a solid offering, and a very nice alternative to "normal" rums.

Tastes like it is perfect for pirates to keep away scurvy. Little harsh but I have always had a bottle on hand since 8 years ago. Can be used as a good mixer if you want to add a little orangey rum flavor.

The right sweetness and very smooth. Taste: mainly oranges.

It is great for casual drinking. It has this sweet, vanilla almost orange peel taste. Actually ti is the sweetest rum I ever tasted, althou can never beat my beloved Barcelo.

I really struggled with this one. When I first opened the bottle, it had a very strong artificial orange smell that (like others mentioned) smelled like a cheap cleaner. I wasn't impressed, so it just sat in my collection for over a year... This time when I tried it, the orange smell was almost gone! So... my review of an opened / aged bottle: This rum has a rich amber colour with strong orange overtones. It has a fairly strong alcohol smell, and tastes a bit strong, but doesn't burn. It is a very unique tasting rum, with a slight "orange candy" flavour. While OK straight, it made an excellent, nice/different rum and cola! Not so bad after all.

If you tend to the sweeter not dry side of rums, you will like this. It has tones of vanilla (which some people turn away from) and orange. I love sipping this rum with a cigar. I will always keep it on my rum shelf, and it ads a little extra flare with the unique packaging. It is also reasonably priced.
