Flor de Caña 18-Year rum

Flor de Caña 18-Year

WE
had this rum recently

Nicaragua | Aged | 40% ABV

A sugar-free 18-year old, ultra premium rum that is sustainably produced (Carbon Neutral & Fair Trade certified). From a 5th generation family estate, it is naturally aged without artificial ingredients, distilled 100% with renewable energy and KOSHER certified. A full-bodied rum with a long and smooth finish that lingers in the palate. Best enjoyed neat or on a rock, with a peel of orange.

Deeper, richer and more complex than its younger sibling, but not quite as close to perfection.

Have tasted the 7-year,12 yrs and 18yr. Found the 18yr more subtle, well balanced than the 12yr. Maybe because we visited the distillery in Nicaragua and we're at Puro Sabor that I love this rum. There are better rums, no doubt about it. But this one brings a smile on my face. It is well balanced, smooth and not sweet as rums can be.

This is a Rum that's very smooth and not extremely sweet. I love smoother spirits and this rum seems to get more smooth with each sip. The slight spiciness gives it a great finish.

This is for ones that prefer a not-so-sweet rum. It has nice flavors and long aftertaste.

This rum is an easy 8 for me, nice and smooth with great flavour and a slow easy burn at the finish.

For sippers I can't imagine mixing. Dryer end of the spectrum ohh la la. As others have said, this must sit in the glass for 10-15 minutes, then sip casually. So much goodness to enjoy. Hints of vanilla, cinnamon, tobacco, nutmeg, allspice. If your gig is sweet rums this will not be for you. Chill and enjoy!

A great rum has a flavour that A: agrees with your palate and B: isn't found in any other rum. FdC 18 (and it's little brother the FdC 7) has that quintessential delicate warm nutty-butterscotch-caramel FdC undertone which I've always loved. I could easily pick it out of any line up while blindfolded. If you are a fan of the FdC 7, you'll definitely like this one (The FdC 12 is a different beast with a different flavour profile). It's dissapointing to me how many reviewers here favour some heavily sugared rums over a more honest, more adult drink like FdC 18, but to each his own, I guess. A final note: yes, the FdC 25 is slightly better but it is also almost 3x (!) as expensive. So this is the one that's always on my shelve.
