Pleasant smell, aromatic, sweet taste... good value for a money. No strong alcohol "Bite", smooth and silky!
The sugary sweetness masks so much of the flavour.
Also there is kind of an artificial sweetener / vanilla note I do not like.
Apart from that, I can taste other notes - but they're hidden in the back, unfortunately.
I cannot recommend this as a sipping rum.
My glimmer of hope is that without those overwhelming sweet and artificial notes it might be quite a recommendable rum.
Bought it because of high rating and definitely worth it! Easy going rum that is really both excellent for sipping and mixing.
It's dark, a little bit heavy, but sweet and rather smooth with nice nose and mouth. It goes super well in cuba libre, daquiri or any other kind of drinks.
I'll be buying more in the future :)
Very, very sweet, oily and creamy - I know it is desired by many as a characteristics of "premium" rum, but for me it is almost as much non-authentic as it could be. Next to sweetness alcohol is quite noticeable - for rum which has ca. 10 years in barrel it is a bit strange. Very likely most of the blend are cheap multi-column distillates - you pay first of all for a fancy bottle (and lot of added sugar), not a great product.
Love the taste. You should drink it pure, room temperature.
Zeer lekker en een mooie fles. Goed om lekker rustig te zitten met een lekkere rum.
Dobry balans pomiędzy wyrazistością alkoholu w rumie a słodyczą. Niemniej, nic wyjątkowego.
Tonight’s Rum, Botucal Reserva Exclusiva Rum from Venezuela. Does that bottle look familiar? Well, it should, it’s reported to be the same as Dimplomatico but branded for the German market… So is this a new Rum? I’ll let you decide.
In the glass it’s a light copper color, lighter than it should be for a 12 year; but then it’s a blend and not 100% 12 year. So that makes sense. The nose is of orange, apricots with an under current of almond and brown sugar. It’s not a demarara bouquet as I expected.
My first sip impression finds it easy to start with some heat building over 15 to 20 seconds. It’s Pleasant. It’s not too sweet; I’ve had worse (sweeter). A couple more sips in, the heat subsides and it’s replaced with a bit of warmth in the tummy.
Flavours include orange, caramel or toffee. Some vanilla makes an appearance and the sweetness is just about right. More sips, and the toffee comes out even more. It’s rich and well balanced.
The finish is mild after those few sips and long lasting. It smacks a little dry but the essences of soft butter and brown sugar offset the slight dryness for sure. If you can find this one, I put it at a 9/10 and number 370 of my 500 Rum. Best served neat! If you can’t find Botucal get the Dimplomatico (That too is one of my faves) Cheers!
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

A very balanced rum with strong hints of cocoa, vanilla and caramel with a hint of smoke. A nice sipper and mixer this one of the better affordable rums today.
