Good nose, fairly consistent with many Barbados rums. Taste has some vanilla, reasonable sweetness, and some alcohol burn that I wasn’t really expecting.

This is the first rum I consciously bought - for tasting. I was not disappointed :)

This is a hard one for me to rate. If I was going purely off the taste, I would rate this a 7.2, a little behind Mount Gay Black Barrel Double Cask. But for a sipping rum under $30, I have to give this an 8. Not as sweet as the Mount Gay, but still a pleasant flavor. It has a bit of a burn when sipping neat, but adding a single ice cube cuts the burn dramatically and also changes the flavor. With an ice cube, the wood flavor is more prominent, but not overpowering. I have yet to find a better rum in this price range. I can't usually find this locally, but when I make the trek to go get some, I stock up on several bottles; especially with the recent cost of gas.

My journey has mainly been on the more expensive rums so take my comments with a grain of salt. First, for the price point with no sugar added it is a fine rum. Tasted this alongside Appleton 12 rare cask. Doorly’s is a fine rum. But for me a lot of oak. The Appleton was more well rounded also a bit more expensive. Happy sailing on your rum journey.

Farbe: helles Bernstein

The internet seems to love Foursquare distillery and I can see why - if you came from whisky or, especially, bourbon. This is a good spirit that is somewhat similar. Easy to drink and far lighter than most oily, sugary rums, it is a good bridge between whisky and sweet rum. That being said, I feel the recent trend of hating on sugar being added to rum elevates drier rums and punishes sweeter ones to the detriment of the spirit. There is an art to dry rum, as there is an art to sweet rum, but one is not better for being absent added sugar.
