This is part of a rum Advent calendar from my son. Small but adequate tasting amount.

Terrific nose. Fresh, not alcoholic, lots of floral notes.

Beautiful balance, all flavor and a finish that slides right off the tongue. Not hugely complex, no huge spice, but REALLY nice sipping. I disagree on the "no sweetness" comments I've read. There isn't much, but...just enough. I origionally put this at 8, but am going for 9 (realy wanting 8.5). This is a great rum!

My first ever Angostura and also first Brugal. Min 15yo vs up to 14. Both are smooth and easy to drink. Both are in perfect balance between dry and sweet.
Angostura is the good big surprise: very exotic fruits, flowers notes (and Angostura bitter? :)
Brugal has classic taste, a bit spicy or even salty.
100$ vs 50$. Angostura worth it's money.
Scored 9 vs 7

I have this rum from a cousin, is very good, at the end the taste is not as smooth and sweet as you could have imagined but all in one i think is a very good option to drink straight or even mixed.

Not a big fan of Brugal, but this one might pass. Very sweet though.

More subdued than XV, but the whole rum is buried under very unpleasant wooden flavor. The whole brand seems to be riddled with it, from the cheapest to Leyenda, and I did not dare to try more expensive Brugals with this reputation.

I鈥檝e been sipping it slowly trying to find the taste I did not like. Well it鈥檚 the cork if it wasnt of that over persistance of the cork taste it would be okay but now I鈥檓 disapointed I purchased it

Firts it鈥檚 a chock, you get a strong alcohol dry taste. Then you begin to taste the wood and for 5 to 10 minutes u still enjoy the soft taste. If it wasn鈥檛 for the strong alcohol taste in the beginning it would be a 9 for me. Definitely a good longaftertasty rum!

This is the first rum I bought as a sipper. I have since learned to stay away from bourbon cask rums, but this one wasn鈥檛 too bad. It was smooth and wasn鈥檛 overwhelming with the whiskey like quality that some rums can get from bourbon barrels.
Update: Excuse my foolishness. This is delightful rum that my virgin palate could not fully appreciate on first taste. I highly recommend this easily accessible, dry rum.
