Tasted this rum at the Sweden (Stockholm) Rumfest 2024.
The distillate in Blackwell Rum comes from Wray and Nephew. It’s said that they’re using an old family recipe created by the Blackwell’s family that once owned J Wray and Nephew.
The rum is said to be aged between 18-24 months which seems relevant.
In nose it’s sweet and woody with aromas of chocolate and molasses.
At the palate it’s even sweeter but there are also flavors of vanilla, chocolate, caramel, spice and fruits.
Overall a too sweet rum without the Jamaican funk that I can’t recommend for sipping, but that probably would work a quite well in a Dark’N’Stormy.

Nice funky Jamaican rum. Easily drinkable. I recommend this especially if you’ve not tried Jamaican rum.
This is an ok rum, but nothing extraordinary for me.
Alkohol: 40 %
As a mixer this is really good - makes one hell of a dark and stormy. As a sipper - totally one dimensional and flat tasting very very little of that Jamaica funk. So i will split the difference in my rating. 8 as a mixer and 4 as a sipper.
Nothing crazy to share about this rum. Slight funk on the nose with caramel, molasses, and vanilla.
Loved it. I need to find the 007 edition to see the difference.
Coming in at $40 US I had a lot of expectations on what this rum should be, and while it didn’t meet the expectations I had, it didn’t certainly didn’t disappoint.
The website doesn’t give a ton of information, but after scouring online it seems this rum is aged anywhere from 1-3 years. How ever long it’s aged it’s surprisingly smooth with little heat. It doesn’t take fake and adulterated like the Gosling Black Seal rum and in fact, it had a wonderful balance of sweet and funk with a dry finish. I got a lot of caramel and burnt toffee up front with a dry sweet vanilla finish.
So far I’ve just drank it neat but I’m very curious to see how it adds to a jungle bird or Mai Tai.
This is a functional black rum for mixing. Nice color and finish.
"sweetness of the aroma is overpowered by the youthfulness..."

'Deep amber brown in color, Blackwell...'
"Drink Spirits reviews Blackwell Black Gold Special Reserve rum"
The nose is rich, dark molasses and caramel.
"The sweetness of the aroma is overpowered by the youthfulness of the blend and the burn is long lasting and leaves little by way of flavour in the mouth, just heat."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

A good rum, works well with coke. Not smooth enough to work without a light mixer
