Barbancourt 5 Star Reserve Especiale 8-Year Rum is agricultural, meaning it's produced from fermented sugar cane juice rather than the more typical molasses. The sugar cane juice is double distilled and aged for eight years in Limousin oak barrels.
Dupré Barbancourt created the Barbancourt rum recipe in 1862 in Haiti, where the rum is still produced today. A French national, Barbancourt incorporated traditional French methods including double-distillation in the process.

Just great. I've tried different alcohol from different countries, but this one has impressed me. The smell, the color, the taste is just off the chain. I'd recommend this to anyone, and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
PS: I think if it was more expensive, people would appreciate it more
The best tasting rum for the price 1000000%. 8 year aged rum for $31 bucks in CA. Sugar cane so it's extra sweet.
My preference is for agricoles, but the taste, for me, of Barbancourt 8 years is exactly in the middle with molasses based. It's smoother than the agricoles but the push and strength is . I think is mandatory for a perfect cabinet.
Great sipping rum for a rum lover. The extra quick from the agricole notes plus wood notes makes it a great dram. One of the most underrated brands out there but great value for the one looking for something special without having to brake the bank
Well balanced, golden in colour and perfect to sip
Beautiful colors. Smooth, with pleasant notes of oak and a soft scent of the cane sugar.
Don't be fooled by bad reviews, this r(h)um has it all - a bit of smoke, charred oak, honey, cinnamon, toffee, very little burn on the finish. There's also a plasticky, medicinal element to this that's not unpleasant. The flavors dance on the palate. Mouthfeel is nice and thick. I also get hints of honeyed raisins. A lover of bourbon and scotch will enjoy this fine offering.
i like it. very smooth for this kind of rhum. creamy. light and bold at the same time. long aftertaste with spicy notes. smoke. tabacco. if you like unsweetend rums, try this. a good buy and balanced sugar cane juice rhum!
A classic but somewhat different rhum. Do not dismiss this rum because you do not like agricole.
Has very little by way of vegetal/grassy notes. An excellent complex sipping rum.

Nose is surprisingly “molasses” like.
"Nice citrus notes, a little lime, a hint of lemon moving onto a more fruity green grapes."
