Bacardi Black rum

Bacardi Black

United States | Dark | 40% ABV

Originally named Bacardi Black, this rum is now called Bacardi Select. The recipe is the same, which consists of a blend of aged rums, charcoal-filtered once before resting for at least 4 years in American White Oak.

Love this in Mai Tais (real mai tais). Nice spice. Better than Goslings for this application.

The 2016 version seems to be a change from blends of the same name in earlier years. The label purports this to be a blend of rums aged 1 to 3 years in heavily charred oak barrels. I'm not sure how Bacardi defines "Black", it looked pretty amber to me and only when I put it side by side with Bacardi Gold could I tell it was a little darker. Tasted straight up, there is an initial aroma of caramel, charcoal and hint of dried fruit. Smooth, sweetish but with hint medicinal after taste. Not a very strong flavour profile, and is best served with coke and lemon slice.

Better than the most common Bacardi purchases but nothing special

Not usually a fan of Bacardi rums and didn't even know this existed as I haven't seen this in a UK bar but saw it on a drinks menu in Budapest. I was served on ice and went down very well. We need more of this in the UK!

Химический ром, особое после вкусие характерное для него. На любителя слабо выдержанный ром хорош с колой

I would guess that the barrels would be charred considering the bold and dark color however, it is void any smokey or charred characteristics. Almost suggesting artificial coloring.

If you're looking for a budget friendly Dark Rum this is surprisingly good. Not too expensive. Readily available. Smooth enough to drink on the rocks.

I've had this bottle for years and never opened it. It still had the old paper tax label on it. Finally cracked it open. It was a twist off so I wasn't expecting a lot. Has a somewhat strong alcohol smell. Very dark. Decent legs. While it is aged and dark, it is somewhat light on the palate. Not a great rum, but pretty decent for the $15 current store price.

I give it better than a five, not too sweet, in fact a nice oak flavour, maybe a bit too much of a bourbon like flavor. It's smooth enough to drink on the rocks, but as a black not quite enough molasses notes for my taste. Good looking bottle for the bar, nice looking next to the 151.
