Mount Gay Extra Old (often written "OX") is a blend of rums aged between 8 and 15 years in American bourbon barrels.
Mount Gay Distilleries is the oldest operating distillery in the Americas - producing rum in Barbados since 1703. It's original name was Mount Gilboa, and in 1801 renamed Mount Gay after the distillery's manager Sir John Gay Alleyne.

Very well balanced rum, pot still and column still blend without sugar or color added.
Smells wonderful similar to other aged unadulterated rums from Barbados, its a combination of bourbon whiskey and cognac barrel-aged rums. I would say the cognac is predominant love, a bit alcoholic at first but once you let it sit opens up great, the finish is smooth and long.
All in all a wonderful rum.

Very, very drinkable especially if you are on a budget. Started drinking this in Barbados at the Mount Gay distillery tasting party. Love it on the rocks with a drop or 2 of lime.

A surprisingly good rum for the price. Pleasant on the nose with just a slight burn. Naturally sweet and neatly balanced with some ginger and white pepper notes.

Nose and Palate both have Molasses, Wood, Cinnamon and Toffee
And guess what, you can focus on each element and have the reward of it singularly coming through to reward your senses.
Mr. Smith hit the target on this one, and each encounter delivers sub-MOA accuracy.

This is definitely one of my favorites so far. Not to sweet not to dry, right down the middle. A spicy sweet fruity oak taste.

Zvedavost mi nedala neochutnat jednu z najstarsich palenic rumov na svete. Vynimocne prekvapenie sa nekonalo, ale kto ma rad nedosladene rumy, trosku suchsie a horkejsie, tak mu moze chutit.
Mna ale az tak neoslovil.

molassas on the nose with clove, brown sugar, and sweet on the palate. Overall it is a decent sipper, but not an exceptional sipper.

What a great smooth and full flavour rum for the price. Easily one of my favourites hands down.

I bought this rum because of the relatively good comments that I heard about it. After tasting it, I was unimpressed. I do not think I can describe its flavor with enthusiasm as is the case with other rums, but it was OK. It is on the side of the sweet rums, perhaps some caramel somewhere, some honey, but nothing really exciting. I mean it achieves a minimum standard set by rums of similar price in the sense that its quality is acceptable, but that is all.
