Gosling's Black Seal

OF
had this rum recently

Bermuda | Dark | 40% ABV

The James Gosling family business first produced Gosling Black Seal rum in 1806, and it is now the oldest surviving business on the island of Burmuda.

Gosling 'Black Seal' rum received it's name from the black wax originally used to seal the bottles. It is Bermuda's most widely exported product and considered the nation's national drink.

This is my go to for a dark floater, perfect floater for a painkiller

Absolutely lovely smell - you can smell an empty glass forever. Taste is not so great solo (alcohol is rather harsh), but for drinks (of course Dark'n Stormy - I didn't drink a better version than with this rum) it's absolutely fantastic stuff.

Pretty allright rum. Has a taste which would suit more in a sharper cocktail like dark n stormy or moscow mule. Probably not the best candidate for a sipping rum.

This rum is quite ok when drunk neat. Hits all the right boxes when it comes to those chocolatey, truffle molasses. But there are also strong notes of alcohol and artificial flavours that ultimately leave it inferior to some counterparts. It is great as a mixer when you drink it with dark n' stormys. A must when you visit Bermuda!

This stuff is pretty cheap, although I found it on the second shelf of my liquor store. The labeling and the bottle are as simple as they come and certainly reflect it's price point. Meanwhile, the bottle handles well and is very light, which I like. Taste is unremarkable, with a slightly bitter aftertaste that I can't quite pin down. Smooth and easy to drink. Color seems artificial, and I noticed the liquid and particularly the coloring agents seem to stick to the sides of the bottle. You can also tell by looking through the liquid that it seems unnatural. So all in all, seems to be a colored and flavored product and not a truly authentic dark rum. Not horrible, but not interesting either.

I know this is the only rum officially allowed in a dark and stormy, and I can't disagree. On its own it's basically a thick black concoction, but it's perfect in a d&s.

Decent rum but unfortunately nothing really special about it.

Tastes good not amazing or anything special, but great with ginger beer. Possibly the best rum for a dark n stormy.
