Gosling's Black Seal

TA
had this rum recently

Bermuda | Dark | 40% ABV

The James Gosling family business first produced Gosling Black Seal rum in 1806, and it is now the oldest surviving business on the island of Burmuda.

Gosling 'Black Seal' rum received it's name from the black wax originally used to seal the bottles. It is Bermuda's most widely exported product and considered the nation's national drink.

This is my go to black rum that doesn’t overwhelm other ingredients or rum when in a cocktail.

I love full-bodied, dark rums with lots of flavor and this one fits the bill nicely. Chocolate and port wine come through with every sip. Beautiful color, too. Enjoy it neat. Live a little!

This one is the one to use to make a Dark 'n Stormy. For my everyday drink i use kraken since it´s cheaper. But this one is okay. Even if i prefer the 151 instead for the faster buzz..

This rum is perfect for the Dark N Stormy cocktail with it´s dark, thick flavor. Also good in tiki drinks, obviously.

need I say more? Goslings with bundaberg ginger beers or home made ginger beer is near perfect. Coruba is slighty better but cant take much away from Goslings except that they have a aggressive copyright policy and send letters to people who use the dns name without permission. So BOO and -3 points.

A retro bottle. Smells like ethanol and spices. Tastes like ethanol, sugar coloring and the industrial revolution. Hope it tastes better in cocktails than it does neat.

I recently started to stock rums for tiki cocktails. While I need a dark Jamaican, I also wanted to try a dark & stormy that was authentic. Since I already had Whaler's, I wasn't going to buy two more dark rums.

This smells of hickory smoke and tastes bitter and, well, that's it. The bitterness and sharp heat covers up anything else I could possibly taste.

Ginger beer is spicy and ridiculously sweet so the bitterness is a good counter point I suppose.
Unfortunately, both are hot in different ways making me feel like there is no reason to ever try this or a dark n stormy again.

Edit: So trying this in other drinks that required a dark rum and I've changed my mind and upgraded my rating. The rich dark character really helps an overly sweet drink and makes it comforting.

Made an account just to rate this as the first! Rum newbie, this one is really showing off how diverse rum can be!

Deep aroma, beautiful long lasting caramel and cocoa notes. Sip is warming with a creamy mouth feel, long finish. Peppery notes on top of the body. Lovely, excited to mix with it as well.

This is great as a mixer and not too bad as a sipper.
