The James Gosling family business first produced Gosling Black Seal rum in 1806, and it is now the oldest surviving business on the island of Burmuda.
Gosling 'Black Seal' rum received it's name from the black wax originally used to seal the bottles. It is Bermuda's most widely exported product and considered the nation's national drink.

Distinctive taste which goes well in cocktails but Iiked it less when drinking it neat.
This is a solid rum that has been a mainstay in the rum world for years. I love using this in Hurricanes and a Dark & Stormy. Easy to find and affordable
Treacle, butterscotch, toffee, caramel, etc. Definitely one-note. Makes a decent enough dark and stormy, if you want one of those. But if I'm mixing with ginger ale, I'm probably reaching for something else regardless. One of those "starter rums" that eases people into something beyond Bacardi or Captain Morgan, but doesn't have much staying power once you branch out past it.
For the price you can’t beat this rum for your everyday sipper. A nice and dark rum with a great molasses flavour. It is definitely an all-rounder great for mixing and great for sipping. Don’t bypass this Bermuda 🇧🇲 beauty.
This was an ok rum, but only use it for mixed drinks. It is good with a D&S , but definitely not a sipping rum in my opinion.
Tastes old. Not aged, old. Like when you got your first round of shots when you were 16 or like what you’d get if you asked for rum in old, old England.
Probably makes a couple of ok cocktails, but just tastes sort of weird and there’s far nicer options to mix with.
A bit like an 80s version of Kraken I guess.
Made an account just to rate this as the first! Rum newbie, this one is really showing off how diverse rum can be!
Deep aroma, beautiful long lasting caramel and cocoa notes. Sip is warming with a creamy mouth feel, long finish. Peppery notes on top of the body. Lovely, excited to mix with it as well.
It is comparable to Diplomatico mantuano. An ok rum that doesn't disappoint
'well balanced and nuanced with butterscotch, vanilla and caramel'
"Goslings Black Seal rum review by The Ultimate Rum Guide"
The nose is very pungent. Heavy thick treacly molasses and sweet caramel.
"It’s initially sweet like liquorice, there is a little heat and spice in the mix and the finish is long and slightly bitter."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I'm a relative newbie wrt sipping rum. But you cannot beat Goslings for dark n stormies. I also like Goslings ginger beer. Other ginger beers put me off. Stick with the winning formula, plus 1/2 of a lime.
