Smooth and enjoyable, no need to kill it with cola or lime. A splash and a wedge in a short glass with rocks is a fine drink.
So if you need something that you are willing to share and dont have to spend a whole lot of bread, this is the bottle to get.
I happened upon this when searching for something that I could drink during a family cookout, knowing full well a few of the family lushes would be standing next to me with their cup empty, looking for a taste. They always like the high end stuff I buy.
Well this time I bought FDC 7y thinking I was getting something that would be easy on my pockets (cheap), and that I could drink with my cigar, and not have to share my good stuff. Well it surprised me for sure. Not bad at all, but obviously not top shelf. Still not bad to sip on, and again it was easy on the wallet.
That was my initial rating which was a 7. However, years later with 39 rums down the hatch, I'm bumping it up. It is the best rum I've found available in 1.75 L bottles which cuts the price significantly. My ratings are on taste, smoothness and price. My initial rating is below.
This was one of .my experiments. I am no connoisseur but I drink aged rum on the rocks regularly. This was a good rum but not good enough to warrant a second bottle. I would definitely drink and enjoy it, but there are so many others out there to try. It's middle of the pack
Flor de Caña was – a long, long time ago – my first serious rum (muchas gracias Gerardo). It became almost instantaneously my reference for any comparisons. Nowadays I would join the “my go to” club. Fully share David’s opinion poste on 4 April 2016.
NB: I am not a specialist. It just happens that I like rum.
Wood & alcohol very present, sweetness more subtle, good quality for mixing, around 15€ when you order it, 18-20€ in the cornershop. But I prefer the Santiago de Cuba Anejo with its 5 year and same price, better in nearly every sense.
This rum is balanced and tasty. But the taste is immature like it has not fully aged and developed. Looking forward to sampling the 12 and 18!
Unfortunately pitched against Origenes 18 and Foursquare Zinfandel aged rums, left it high and dry.
Square Bottle with screw cap.
Colour: amber
Nose: light, pleasant
Mouth: warm gentle aroma of dried fruit, some woody notes and a hint of vanilla
Burn: gentle, sustained
Sweetness: 3/5, which is a redeeming feature
Summary: I'll won't mix with coke, happily finish the bottle and look for the big brother.
Dopitá sklenička voní tabákem a trochu karamelem.
This was my first rum and its still the best among others.
It smells reasonably “boozy”. You still get notes of good oak ageing.
"The finish is overall quite bitter almost like dark chocolate."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Starts off with some nice caramel overtones, but the alcohol aftertaste is pretty unpleasant. Not enough going on here to make it a compelling sipper, yet it mixes well enough. And it's cheap. I won't ever need to buy a second bottle, because there are much better rums in this middle-shelf category.
