The first time I bought this, I didn't really know what I was doing, but the bottle looked super cool and every mix was incredible. This might've been the rum that made me realize that stepping up from the bottom shelf really was worth it, opening me up to this entire world.

Got another bottle recently to try it as a sipper. It can be had for the equivalent of a little under $30 where I live. Lovely caramel color, has a balanced scent straight out of the bottle, doesn't need to open up too much. Has a bit of caramel taste to it, but without being super sweet (if that makes any sense), balanced with vanilla and what I think is oak.

Basically it just comes across as an honest, no extra sweeteners added rum that I hold up there amongst my favorites.

Aangename, gerijpte geur. Droog, zacht, erg kruidig, iets weeïg, de eerste aanzet heeft veel smaak, maar mist daarna structuur en concentratie. Vanille, zoethout, rooibosthee, kandij, melasse.
Intens, matige balans, weinig gelaagd.

Tried this at a friend's for which I was grateful, ax I haven't tried many South American rums.
Typical Spanish style flavours.
Not much smell, faint brown sugar.
Taste is pretty simple and smooth to start. Brown sugar and oak with a sliht touch of leather. The finish is pretty sharp though. There's a definite bite about it and bizarrely a touch of sweetness comes through at the same time.
Overall, this was much less distinct than Cuban rums. It lacks the tobacco vibe. It's very drinkable but pretty bland at the same time. I would go for Havana Club 7 most of the time.

Nothing special about it, the alcohol is surprisingly present. I would not drink this neat.

Had this on an Iberia flight from Madrid to Lima. The taste was very well balanced. I would try this again to pick up the exact notes. I recall honey and milk chocolate.

I'm relatively new, but this is one of my top picks so far.

I prefer to drink Dark Rums with Root Beer. Barqs has caffeine, if I want it. The others don’t, if I don’t. This pairs fantastically with Root Beer, and that’s what I like. It’s pretty cheap for a decent rum, at around $32. I like their 18 year—but cannot justify the extra money, when this is so good. I am not the biggest on their 7 year; I think this 12 year is just right.
