Jamaica | Aged | 43% ABV

Appleton Estate 12-Year Rum is a blend of several rums aged between 12 and 18 years in American oak barrels after being distilled using small-batch copper pot stills.

The rum is produced on the Appleton Estate, which sits in the Nassau Valley in Jamaica. The estate’s origins date back as far as 1655 when the English overthrew the Spanish to rule the island and Frances Dickinson, grandfather of the distillery’s founders, received the land as a reward for his role in the overthrow.

I could take 15 minutes to tell you the story on how it was a pain to get one bottle of Appleton 12 yr through the Pennsylvania Liqour Control Store.
EDIT: revisited this rum again and dropped my rating from 6 to 5. Just a harsh rum that for $4 more I can get outstanding Plantation 20th Anniversary.

Left it sit for a while before sipping and thought it was a little strong and harsh. Dropped half an ice cube in and what a difference. Very nice sipper.

Not every rum has this kind of quality of taste on its own nice aromas of vanilla tho it still have this strong after taste of alcohol. Good with rocks. Advised if you are looking for a good rum but don't want to spend as much.

Drink it how ever you want! This rum delivers the goods and defines how an aged rum should smell, taste and finish. I raise an eyebrow to those who scored this rum with a 6 or lower...

Wouldn't put this on my sipper list however it does lend itself well with lots of ice and with a mixer. My go to rum on a warm evening

Absolutely nothing offensive about this rum - and that's the problem. I've yet to try an Appleton product that has any real funky Jamaican presence. Like other Appletons, this one is not bad, but it's too polite. Much more preferable are the rums bottled by Hamilton, Smith and Cross, Mezan, Wray and Nephew - they all offer that pot-still pungency and room-clearing funk which Jamaican rums are known for. This, on the other hand, is yawn-worthy.

Are un aftertaste interesant. Se simt arome de citrice si de tabaco. Putin cam spirtos dar nu deranjant. Imi place mirosul, distinct, puternic, parfumat si elegant. Merita incercat cu siguranta.

Best Appleton Estate product I've ever had, to date. Rich brown-sugar sweetness, with a slight snap of spicy oak character on the finish and light hints of citrus zest, this one delivers serious character! I'm loathe to only score it with an eight, as I really want to give it an 8, but it's not quite there - close, but the 8's DO have a slight edge on this one. If there was an option to score it with a 7.5, this rum would get it.

My favourite rum on a daily basis. Smooth flavoured with a nice taste of caramel

A good rum just wasn't what I expected for the reputation Appleton has. Straight up, it has a bit too much bite to sip on. It's not worth the price either.
