Good marketing concept that gets your attention and curiosity. There was nothing special in terms of taste that would cause you to hoard or over buy on this rum. Oak, pepper, dry fruit and some caramel all present and accounted for in this rum. It's a bit sharp on entry, but that fades to a nice long burn. This rum was aged in Jim Beam and Jack Daniels casks that give it a burnt taste. I have other rums from St Lucia (1931 series) that are smoother and more complex in flavour for sipping neat. This rum makes for a great mixing rum and it's okay for a sipping rum if you like your rum on the dry side.
Nice and dry, with some oak and spice...but it all goes away quickly. Freud said that there are no accidents. So, maybe there was a reason they "forgot" this rum??
Spicy with floral & vegetal notes, this rum is sweet with short or medium aftertaste. Interresting history past but does not leave a long memory.
Great sipping rum very well balanced. With an aftertaste of smoke, without any unwanted burn. Its St Lucia Distillers' taste very recognizable.
Strong wood dominance in the taste but I feel really strong tobacco notes in the aftertaste. Due to this the whole experience is strange. Maybe with a cigar it would be great, but as a non smoker I can't appreciate it.
Very drinkable, but not as much depth or character as Chairman's Legacy.
Fairly light nose, some caramel, and mild spice character. Pretty light on the palate too, but nothing offensive; some dark fruity tones, a smokey note, light oak, hint of vanilla. Molasses on the finish with a pleasant bitterness (mild for sure, but it's there). Almost no burn. This might shine more at a higher ABV, why not 43%?
I do like it, but for the price, Legacy is the way to go as it is less expensive and just a better rum in my opinion.
Received this bottle at Christmas and surprised at how unimpressed I was with it. Honestly I expected to be blown away and ranking it as an "8" but after noting the communities ratings and comments I couldn't help but agree. Don't get me wrong - its not terrible and in fact very respectable but just doesn't live up to the marketing of the "forgotten cask" and the price tag vs other better rated "7" rums.
Nez leger. Fruité, sur la canelle et ananas. Rhum avec du corps, arriere gout salin et long en bouche
It still has a slightly smokey, tobacco-ey taste and smell to it.
"The extra ageing has added an extra depth of flavour (if not smoothness) to the rum."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
