This is Costco production of a spiced rum and seems to be an excuse for adding in loads of sugar and additives ... Tastes like the corner shop sweets to me with a bit of spice ... Not a fan personally as drinking the huge 1.5l may need a trip to the dentist ... Lucky for me I only had a 25ml same from a friend ... Certainly something I won't be purchasing
Let me first say that I absolutely love many Kirkland wines and their 12yr blended whisky (the only blended I like). I figured, it's a cheap rum made in the Caribbeans so it can't be bad. Boy was I wrong. This rum is absolutely terrible. It doesn't go well, neat, on the rocks or in cocktails. Rum and coke & dark and stormy are my go to summer drinks and while each rum has it's distinctive profile, I never had any issues with any of the spiced rums from Cruzan, Bacardi, Flor de Cana, Brugal and other brands I tried but this one is just not drinkable. I gave the bottle to a friend who didn't seem to mind the overpowering medicinal taste much and I'll never buy one again.
Of all the spiced rums I've ever tried this is by far the worst. It's just not good. Doesn't mix well, doesn't taste good in its own. It's just terrible. I really wish it was better.
I’m curious how they call this spiced rum. I’m usually pretty positive on this site with my ratings, but this was just bad. It made Captain taste good(strictly comparatively speaking). All I got was bubblegum. Not even any spice. Imagine finding an off-brand candle that was intended to be “bubblegum” scented and that’s what the aroma smelled like. And then it tastes exactly the same, so it’s got that going for it. I couldn’t even finish the little pour I did of it and didn’t want to ruin a can of coke so I just poured it all into my 3 liter barrel and I’ll see if some actual time on oak can help it…..but I’m not holding out any hope.
Rather than thinking; “well this is really bad but I’ll hang onto it anyway”, this needs to be put out if your mind, pour it down the drain. Each time you see the bottle it will remind you how bad it is, you will never want to drink it, as then depression on the fact you actually purchased it will set it,, pretend it never happened.
Initial overwhelming vanilla flavor then you are drinking rubbing alcohol does not even mix well. This is a Sazerac Company product ....
Very smooth rum, mixed with water and ice. Taste: horrible! What on earth is that nasty dishwater flavor they added to this? Wasted my money on this stuff. I certainly expected more from a Caribbean rum.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I really enjoyed the Kirkland spiced rum when it initially hit the shelves. This rum + diet coke became my go-to cocktail of choice and I adored the reasonable price. About a year or so ago I had noticed they've completely changed the formula. I've Googled for information about this but I'm not able to find anything. On occasion, I'm able to source an "old rum" bottle from Costco, but I've recently made the mistake of purchasing a case of what I thought was the old rum. It's really nearly undrinkable. Adding some straight up vanilla extract helps, but ...yuck.
