Uitvlugt (pronounced “eye-flut”) is a village in Guyana, based on the west bank of the Demerara River. The Dutch-owned Uitvlugt Distillery was established around 1750, housing double wooden pot stills which produced a characteristically heavy rum. In 1975 the government began consolidating rum production, and this sadly saw the closure of Uitvglut in 2000. The good news was that the eponymous legendary wooden pot still, was saved and is still in use today being the source of our 26-year-old rum. It matured for 2 years in the tropics and was later aged in Europe in a recycled ex-Rum cask. The cask for our Guyana (Uitvlugt) 1999 Rum, yielded only 184 bottles, and is one of the smallest releases in our collection. Bottled at cask strength of 52,6% ABV.
