Sweet in smell, bit sweet in taste but nothing for ladies. Its not elixir, it still has its rum power and with its orange and spices tones it makes a great combination for your tongue.

Nice sweet rum. Little to much sweet for me. Nice long aftertaste.

En god sød rom som bør nydes i stedet for et stykke slik, meget andet bidrager den vel ikke med.- afhængig af humør kan den virkelig forsøde en aften på sofaen... - fin begynder "rom".

while i liked XO reserve from Riise, i had bit different expectation. I wanted a sweet rum, cool, got it, but with one strong scent (maybe orange), i cannot even use it as aperitive. With coke, ok, drinkable. When i put few drops Zacapa in to it (yeah, call me barbarian), it got definitely better to something what i expected from the beginning. Seems it gets better with ice so the others here say, gonna try it.

The Riise Family Reserve is a marvellously round, sweet and mellow rum of amber colour. The smell strongly reminds me of the famous Hungarian Tokaji wine. If that doesn't mean anything to you, imagine a young fruity sherry or port with flavours of sweet grapes and hints of orange. Albeit maybe not the most complex or extensive olfactory impression of rums, its pleasingly sweet, remarkable balance perfectly hits my taste. If you let it breath for more than an hour the smell develops an even milder honeylike character.

The taste follows the smell. Sweet, fruity mellow flavour of late vintage grapes is followed by faint hints of dark chocolate that gives way to forest honey the longer it breathes. The Riise Family Reserve 1838 is the perfect choice for sweet rum aficionados.

It has the A.H. Riise extra (added) sweetnes - but is stil a nice complex and well tasting rum.
