First time was on old plantation veranda in St Lucia, was one of the best rums they had. Enjoyed it with a nice cigar. Had it again recently wanting to relive the moment. Good rum 7.5 but not great.

Rhum doux sans être trop sucré, un bel équilibre.
Gout de miel, noisette et boisé.
Notes finales persistantes et intenses.

Great rum to drink neat, very easy to drink over and over. Love the tastes, very smooth, again caramel and vanilla. Nice looking bottle in the form of a decanter, this was my first, slightly more expensive rum after getting into this glorious tipple!!

Priced at just over a half century, as I like to say the options for other fantastic spirits start to open up. Admiral Rodney is not a bad rum on the contrary it's quite good. It's smooth and maybe too much so. I'm convinced that rums benefit from being bottled above 40% ABV and unfortunately the Admiral is pedestrian in this test. Still yet of the 80 proof club this is one of the finer ones I've sampled.
A balanced sipper, only a fool would use this in a mixed cocktail, not one element overpowers the other. Very harmonious and sniffing it just now in the dead of winter brings images of the warm tropics. Palm trees swaying in a gentle breeze. It's that kind of rum.
But at this price for a slice of white sand visions, I'm likely to go elsewhere next time. I like my rum with a little more hair and a bit more authentic to what the good Admiral was probably drinking himself in his day.
Definitely give it a go if your flush with cash and you enjoy excellent down the middle agreeable rum.
Hold off if your looking to push the envelope.

Nice citrus and a bit spicy. Sweetness tastes like caramel. I like this one a lot!

Good smooth rum from St Lucia which can be sipped without restraint offered in a nice square bottle with a very nice wooden cork !

This rum is good as a single drink on a cold winters day.

I've enjoyed many bottles of Adrmiral Rodney over the years. Prior to discovering Flor de Canya, this was my favourite. Having toured the distillery in person and seeing the great museum they also have, I was lucky enough to bring home a few bottles of this, and the (at the time) yet to be released 1931.

Nose: weak sweetnes overrun by tobbaco and ammonia.

Pallet: fatty oaky eith a medium burn.

Awesome looking bottle though.
