Tonight’s Rum: Lake Chelan Peirates Rum from Blue Spirit Distilling Washington. This local Rum starts off very spicy on the nose. Cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg and walnuts gives you a Christmassy feeling (time of year not related). The first hit it the mouth is sweet. The allspice then takes over much like Barbancourt 15, but in this case it continues with sweetness. The flavor reminds me much of candied nuts. As Rum it’s not got a great deal of actual Rum flavor, it’s more like a flavored Vodka. It still works though. In the throat it’s warm, you know you had a sip, but has no burn or pepper. The finish is all allspice and brown sugar with just a lingering nutmeg. Buttery. Nice. I’d give it 8 out of 10, and only available in Washington.
