Saw this in my local store and bought it on a whim. A U.S. crafted rum - why not?
More of a straw color in the glass, not "gold", which indicates they're probably not using any coloring agents and the hue comes from actual barrel aging. Lovely aroma. First few sips were quite nice and a chip of ice helped to open up the flavor a little more: very nice. Haven't run a hydrometer test on this rum but didn't detect any noticeable additives / dosing in my tastings. Reminded me of Doorly's XO, which is a very good thing. At twice the price of the Doorly's I might not be buying it as often, but I will be buying it again.
Nonetheless, it's encouraging to see a small craft distiller in the United States wading into the pool and making a real rum rather than some sugary liqueur. Hopefully, others will follow suit. Good show, Red Harbor.
