I was always skeptical of rums, or brands for that matter, that only had 1 or 2 expressions. Then factor in the price and I thought this was a gimmick rum like Zacapa 23. But when I found this rum for a seeming stupid low price(under $40) I decided โwhy not?โ It definitely did not disappoint. Itโs lighter bodied than I usually prefer for a sipper, but the nose/aroma is everything you could want and imagine when you think โrunโ. Thereโs a touch of sweetness but it only compliments and highlights the flavors and the oak is subtle for how long itโs supposedly aged. Not many options coming out of Panama but this one definitely seems to check all the boxes for me
Deep toffee on the nose, taste is burnt caramel with a bit of a burn. Finish lifts up a bit in lightness then comes down covering tongue completely in caramel. Just the right amount of sweetness right down the middle only a tiny bit too sweet for me but i dont like overly sweet rum so likely perfect amount for the majority. Easy to find almost anywhere surprising I donโt see it in more non-rum bars. A must-have classic for the collection
I'm a big fan of sherra cask finished rums. But this rum is so perfectly balanced with its cask finish that is now my favourite daily rum ๐
As a Bourbon drinker, this is an instant favorite. A little dryer, oakier, than some of my other rums, but 21 years old at a great price point.
Maybe I love it so much, because I canโt buy it in Michigan, USA. Smooth to drink, great complex flavor, perfect amount of sweetness. I save this for special occasions.
This is my go-to 99% of the time. You canโt beat it for the price. Smooth and semi-sweet
Sad to have to give it up at TSA yesterday as it was opened and enjoyed previously>
The weight of the bottle matches the quality of sweet aged notes. Solara is mentioned no where?
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This is the perfect rum for those bourbon and/or scotch drinkers who don't want to be bombarded with the overt sweetness and sugar of some rums such as Diplomatico Reserva and Zaya. Don't get me wrong, it still has a lot sweetness but it's muted by the bourbon barrel aging and goes down very easily. I'm really enjoying this at the moment as my nightly sipper.
