This is strong stuff and the first few sips really told me this, for me a strong woody taste and a real bite with the strength, which you notice less the more you have. I drink my rum neat and I've bought to date two bottles of this, as I am new to rum and continue my rum journey I think it will be a while before I return to this.
On the nose; strongly reminds me of a Cadbury dark rum and raisin chocolate bar with a bit brown sugar bag smell and a hint of vanilla.
On the tongue; The barrel taste is for me a bit too prominent, which I think is very the brandy type of taste comes from, masking all the other lovely notes to the background, the ethanol burn is a bit like a punch in the face, there is a fleeting moment of fruits just before it finishes of to a pepper note in the throat and a tingle on the lips. Overall it is an interesting rum, I glad I tried it, but will never be my first choice.
A great Demerara! Very smooth taste with hints of brown sugar and chocolate. It's a shame that the availability of this product is quite poor.
This takes me back every time I take another sip, I spent my younger years drinking this and didn't return to regular rum drinking until about 15 years ago a lovely drink which got me into a lot of messy situations 🤣🤣🤣
Taste wise, the burn and alcohol is clear at 57% as expected, but the sweet hints of brown sugar and cane are fab! Great drinking neat on the rocks, or with some ginger beer. A pleasant drinking experience and a bottle tends to last a bit longer than the average given the strength!
This dark rum is how I believed all rum tasted before I found out that.it doesn't.
It is that traditional strong taste of the rum rationed daily to seamen of the Royal Navy for centuries.
I still like it and do buy myself the occasional bottle of this sweet coal juice.
This is certainly a different rum from the average rum you will find at your local supermarket, a lot stronger and darker than most rums, but pleasant to the pallet, and very moorish.
It can be drunk with just ice, as a tall drink, or added to coffee. I either drink it neat, or if thirsty, with some freshly squeezed orange joice.
"spice in a very upfront punch in the face kinda way"

Extra potency gives the rum a bit more of a kick.
"The rum is still quite sweet and is very similar in taste to Skipper and Lambs."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

At the pub and I spot this behind the bar, and I think, sod it, let's see what it's like.
Very demerera, but young and sharp and hot, with a blanket of added sugar to mask the unpleasantness!
Overall, it's pretty drinkable. Certainly I had a few, and I prefered it to the Diplomatico RE that they also had, which says something.
Hey, I'd happily drink it, but equally I'd rather drink Chairman's Reserve anytime.
