This is one of the better rums from the DR. a good entry level sipping Rum that is readily available.
Nice aroma with notes of vanilla with a simple and uncomplicated flavor.
Vizcaya VXOP
Cuban Formula Rum
Cask No. 21
Aged 8 Years
40%
Country of origin: Dominican Republic
Blended
Colour: Chestnut
Nose:
Very sweet reminding of Punschkrapfen (Austrian Punch Doughnut), red glaze and marzipan. Furthermore there are notes of candy floss and strawberry jam with fudge and toffee. More and more vanilla with cinnamon are coming up.
Palate:
Not as sweet as expected although there is still some sweetness with fruity notes at first mouthfeel. Smooth and soft, light, slightly spicy and smoky. After some time the sweetness is replaced by spiciness (cloves, black pepper and green bell pepper).
Finish:
Medium long with herbal notes, slightly dry and bitter.
Sladký a voňavý , ale .... Nekomplexní tělo , jako by chyběl obsah alkoholu nebo doba v zrání v sudu . Ale láhev má tento rum opravdu luxusní .
After a long day at work and in most cases well into the night, I'll relax with a quality rum poured neat. The nose on first glance was exciting.... even interesting.... but the first tasting was not remarkable. The second, third tastings.... well, let's just say it started getting weird. I am not enough of a trained taster to make an in depth analysis, but I'll close by saying cotton candy and plenty of ice.
Everyone swears by this stuff, but I think its a little bitter to me. Not a bad rum at all, just not something i like.
medicinal and cheap vanilla bomb. The finish was astringent and unpleasant. 70+
I cant help but be a bit annoyed by the marketing-scams, going on in the rum business. While this is a smooth, balanced, sweet, and in no way provoking rum, they just had to add 'Cask no. 21', which makes no sense other than being there to confuse newcomers to the rum-world. This rum is not 21 years old, as many newcomers might be thinking. It is not from 'cask 21' as there has simply been made way to many bottles of this, that they all could come from a single cask. This is a solera blend. Depending on the country, the number 21 means, that the blend simply has to have a small fraction of 21 year old rum in it. So what 'Cask 21' is, is simply dishonest marketing, ment to fool people.
I’m sitting at the table trying to decide my final thoughts on this rum. It is a bit thin upon pouring and somewhat bland with its aroma. Upon tasting this beverage, notes of oak, cinnamon, and molasses. Slight warmth at the end... Kind of reminds me of fireball and water, at the end of the night. Nothing great about this rum except the price. Smooth enough but no kick or noteworthy notes to the pallet. Don’t think I will be adding this to the collection...
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Solid rum good for those that like sweeter rums reminds me of centenario 30 but less caramel
