Enjoyed this rum straight in a small glass. Didn't find a complex profile to the rum but certainly a good sipper to try on someone that isn't as accustomed to drinking rum without mix. Smooth, very little to no burn.

Certainly good!

A tad more sweet than the twelve year, but not overly so. I like this rum quite a bit!

Toffee with an apple pie flavor to it. My friends are whiskey (whisky), lovers and tried this sipping rum. They loved it as it was their induction in to the rum arena.
When you first open the bottle it smells like turpentine. Foul. However if you let it sit in the glass for a few minutes, the overwhelming alcohol burns off and you're left with a delicious sipping rum.
We always keep this on hand.

This rum has strong flavor signatures that leave your pallet begging for more. Instantly picking up the sweet undertones of surge, vanilla, and caramel. A glass has a dark amber color, and has an aroma of sweet sugars.

This is a fine rum. But I judge most rums by my standby, Bacardi 8, which I think is the best combination of taste, smoothness and price. Flor de Cana 18 year is equal, maybe a bit better, in smoothness than the Bacardi 8, but it's almost double the price. I look for some significant improvement at that price and I didn't get it. At the same price I probably prefer the Flor de Cana 18

Nice chocolate smell without alcohol sharpness. Taste is more powerful to tongue.

Klasické ostrejšie centario od ktorého som čakal viac. Nevýrazná korenista chuť.

In my collection, the description follows later. I have to taste it again (but I know, that it is a great rum).

Make no mistake, this is an excellent rum but rarely do I find an 18 year old rum that I don't prefer as a sipper or just with an ice cube. Flor de Cana 18 year old rum is not a solera method and that makes it distinctive. It's a beautiful golden color. It is dry and not sweet. It leans a little toward the bourbon side, just a little. For this reason and a very strong alcohol aroma I couldn't enjoy this as a sipper. I mixed it with a bit of seltzer water and a couple of ice cubes. Then I found it delicious. The oak is the distinctive taste with vanilla also present. The flavors are not strong. It has very subtle flavors. This maybe because I mixed it but drinking it neat all I could taste was oak and smell strong alcohol. I did try letting it sit and breath. To be clear, I really did enjoy drinking this but only after watering it down a bit. I think there are better rums for $50 BUT if somebody gave me a bottle of Flor de Cana as a gift, I would receive it enthusiastically.
