Earth, smoke, tobacco, oak, definitely oak, full, spice, hints of orange(?) some kind of fruit for sure. Deeply complex, full of congeners. Assert
Trinidad 1999 Banyuls & Sherry Cask Finish
Very complex. The cask finish is very well balanced as it adds depth without being overwhelming as they often are. A tad sweet.
Wray & Nephew
Quintessential Jamaican flavour bomb, although one dimensional
Flavour profile resembles 12 year but this is much more dry.
Excellent. Sweet and spicy while staying hefty. Old bottle that I'm trying dosen't have very much funk that you would expect from J. Wray though.
Bottled in 2013
Wow. holy f**k. This is a moment. Rum is very complex and quite frankly I just don’t have enough vocabulary. Deep soft oak and velvety fruity-br
3 Stars Artisanal
Best in class so far
Fruity and fresh, relatively complex--------------
Light style similar to other Bajans I've had. Pleasant but I feel its missing something. Think Mount Gay XO but a tad less oaky (tried side by side).
XO Extra Old
Classic example of authentic rum
A tad astringent initially but quite complex when given time to breathe. Praised for being a true rum without any added sugar or flavourings.
Holds its own
Watery, light oak with typical agricole funk - almost "dirty". While oak is present, it strikes a balance behind the more vegetal notes of the distill
Kirk and Sweeney
Batch no. 2
Pleasant taste but oak dominates the profile too much in my opinion. Hard to get a feel for the original distillate.
Sweet and grassy. Vaguely reminds of pears. Classic rum for mojito.
Family Reserve Old
Meh (2013 release)
Some oak mellowed in with familiar black seal spice. A tad bitter drinking neat as it quickly overcomes the palate. Although its evidently more viscou
A lot of spice, brown sugar, oak? I have to admit I'm not familiar with the other Jamaican distilleries besides Appletons but to me, this is flagra
Very nice petrol notes on the nose and on the palate. Some youth is noticeable but its not bothersome. ... As the glass sits (or my mouth numbs
2013, lot 03
Deep spice, OAK, touch of wine sweetness?, tar, bitterness Esters? Nope, very much Spanish. It has a mustiness similar other Brugal offerings iv
A true 12 year old, sweetened
Very complex and earthy (some petrol notes) but quickly becomes cloying with syrupy sweetness. At 40% with additives, this rum is really holding back
Deep caramel, robust earthyness that I typically associate with Demeraras. Simple but quite pleasant. Astringent but flavourful enough to work in
Pineapple Stiggin's Fancy
Candied fruit and distinct pineapple (natural!). Oak? Maybe. Regardless It’s quite "round". It’s sweet. Although the sweetness is expected and wel
Deep molasses/caramel, oak! bitter on the finish. A bit hot and certainly one-dimentional but quite pleasant and fills a niche in cocktails very we

Wards Creek White
Pleasent, persistent smell of distillation tails. Forward but not overbearing. Medium body, slighly bitter finish. Thin on the palate but consistant w
Strong molasses flavour makes this rum irreplaceable when called for. A tad sweet and overwhelms when it is used as the main spirit in a drink.
If only they could "Exclusiva" the sugar
Modest, quite light, some smokey notes develop when let to breathe for a while. Very liqueur like, sweet to the point of being distracting. Getting
Deep oak but otherwise bland. Solid mixing but doesn't stand well on it's own.
Oak, some smokiness, … I guess that’s all? Standard aged mixing rum. I feel like an earlier release was better (~2013). I remembered earthy toba
Distillerie Fils du Roy
Fort La Tour
Funky but somewhat muted. Flavour somehow reminiscent of butterscotch. As much as I try to like this, the profile is too aberrant for me. Probably
Spanish. Deep oak with some astringency. Almost devoid of congeners. Seems young.
Medium to light body makes this a very unassuming rum. Hard to dislike but also hard to fall in love with at the same time. Breeze of oak and clove. D
Some oak Light and astringent Crowd pleaser but doesent try hard
Oak, some smoke Very light, generic Somewhat astringent but remains pleasant
Gran Reserva 15-Year
Not 15 years old. 15 only designates the oldest rum in the blend. My impression is that the average age is likely half of that. Complex, but too li
Tasty but feels a tad synthetic, spice? Thin on palate and oak absent. Different from other widely available black rums. Must be used when making a "D
Original One Hundred British Proof Reserve
Bitter molasses, thin, very sharp. Not exactly flavorfull and outclassed by its brethren. Its unclear what the purpose of this rum is being between
XO 20th Anniversary
Syrupy, rich and tangy. Odd, cloying liqueur taste can only be compared to the Plantation Original Dark. Apparently about 12 years old.
Barbados Grande Reserve
Very light, oak present but not assertive, buttery(?) on the nose. A “silent spirit”. Infamous Plantation syrup / sweetness lingers in at the end.
Additives? (old version)
Distinct flavour different from any other distillate I've had. Seems very artificial and sweet. Might work in a cocktail in particular but i have y
Some complexity. Wood notes present but difficult to push through astringency. Strong ethanol push.
Some oak, astringency. Very light and generic. Its only competition is other bland mass marketed rums.
Solvent, hot, faint caramel Not particularly offensive some bitterness develops when diluted, even maybe oak?
Heavy, rancid, peanut butter?. Yet, somehow thin. Dark in colour but oak hardly noticeable behind the vegetal notes I usually enjoy agricole funkin
Oh no. Shamelessly flavoured. Butterscotch? Plums? Im guessing some kind of fruit. At least its not sweet. Not estery and I can’t find oak despite
Treacle, dry. Seems like this is some sort of tincture. Dilution is essential
Way too much vanilla. Noxious. The taste is hard to explain. Definitely dry, quite light. Chemical (like if someone dumped too much vanilla extract
Brutal (pun intended)
Although very light, taste like newspapers with some caramel. Strong ethanol push. Very young
Flavour has no trace of aging, funk, or anything at all for that matter. Maybe a faint sweetness but I'm reaching. Could have been a bad batch but giv

Nova Scotia Spirit Co.
Batch no. 025
Hot and heady!, feint nuttiness in the breeze? Quite light. Closer to a bad vodka then to a rum. I suspect this was made to compete with Captain
Not bad, but certainly not good
Very light rum. Seems like it relies more on colouring than on congeners. Difficult to choose over anything else on the shelf.
Spice liqueur, bought in 2014
Strong smell of allspice, anise? Heavily spiced and thickened. Typical rum aromas or even oak are indiscernible. I don’t know how to rate this. The
Very light, industrial, more akin to vodka than rum, drinks made with this somehow seems tainted. Local favorite, wish I could say something good a
