Barcelo Imperial rum is produced in the Dominican Republic using column stills before aged in white oak casks for up to 10 years.
Ron Barcelo was founded in 1929 by Spanish entrepreneur Julian Barcelo in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The brand was sold mainly in the Caribbean and North America until a much broader international expansion began in 1992.

A colleague of mine gave me this rum as a present.
I must say the way the rum is presented (design, color of the rum) did make me expect a whole lot. But, although it's a tasty rum, it's not very special.

Un des premiers rhum gouté lors de mon séjour en république Dominicaine. j'ai vraiment aimé son goût et c'est grâce à lui que je souhaite connaitre d'autres bon rhum.

I decided to try this Dominican rum and the takeaway is quite good. Not too sweet, quite smooth and enjoyable. Bought it in NYC as we do not have this kind in PA. Very nice for the price.

Good rum but nothing special. Very easy to drink, quite oaky but it doesn't give you much else to sparkle the mind...

Strong oak smell. expected to find more of it in taste! it needs to brief to deliver. getting better and better! good value Rum.

I think this is definitely a top choice for sipping. Not too sweet or overly flavored. Smooth and easy to enjoying particularly with a nice cigar.

The bottle looks very luxurious for its price. However, there is 8 YO rum inside, which I rank rather in a better average. The cap has a plastic cork. Although this is not a limited edition, but quite common rum produced in large series, each bottle has its own number.
Rum has a beautiful honey color.
The aroma smells of dried fruits, caramel, spices (especially cinnamon) and woody tones. There is no taste in sweetness.
The taste is quite full, but delicate. It's not sweet. On the palate you can smell dried fruit, caramel and oak wood again. A pleasant finish on the tongue with a medium-term aftertaste.
Overall rating: 7.5 out of 10.
