Barcelo Imperial

I've probably been overly generous in my marking but this was the rum that got me into collecting and tasting them.

Until I tried this I'd only had basic rums, mixed with cokes. It blew me away. Such depth and complexity, like a cognac.

This is a recent retesting.

Leathery nose.

Some tobacco and caramel to taste, some burnt honey, something else a bit bitter and a slightest hint of vegetation.

Not much of an aftertaste and everything fades pretty quickly. Maybe because it's just 38%.

Still a very good rum.

Good smooth rum from Dominican Republic . Aromas of molasses, dried fruit and oak.

Good rum for that price. Nice choice for a everyday evening.

This one is probably the best one barcelo produces, available for 20 euro. Still no top dog, but pretty decent.

Süße nüsse, früchte, etwas süßem tabak und eiche.

Un des rhum les plus doux a la gorge que j'ai jamais goûté. Merci on mon frère qui ma fait découvrir cette bouteille. Bon rapport qualité prix. Suffisamment complexe avec une saveur de miel. On peut le classer au top.

Nice taste, great color, but lacked the kick I was expecting from Barcelo.

This is a well balanced dry type.
In the glass its a bit dark indicating you should find choklare/lether etc but I dont. What my nose can find is something I can't put in word. Depending on your abilities when it comes to tating an putting words to Im sure some can. There is a twist a like mynt or possibly lemon grass - still it aint that...
In mouth I find it dry and balanced. Not burning but at the same time not smooth either - 38% trick?
After taste have chest nut in it - great!
At this price defenitely an 8. Have a sip as often you like - you can afford it.
(Haven't tried it as a blend or w ice)

Great sip rum. Strong and dry, first sip can be a little bit intimidating but you get use to it. Just the right balance of sweetness. One of my favourite sip rum.
