Sugar: 5-10 GPL. The Tortuga Gold was my favourite mixing rum for years. I have been looking for the Tortuga Gold 12 year old for some time and the wait was worth it. Note:The bottle is different from what is shown on this website. This is a well balanced smooth amber rum. On the nose it has oak, vanilla, some smoke and leather, a bit of spice, along with a sweet toffee aroma. All are present in the taste which presents as well balanced and smooth with a natural sweetness and a nice burn. It's not overpowering in any particular way, no wow factor, but it's a good rum for sipping or mixing. This came to me as a gift, and from what I can see it's not available in Canada or the USA. I don't know what the price point is, but Tortuga Gold 12 year old is well worth a try.

Bought a case about 15 years ago. let it sit for that length of time. just opened the first bottle a month ago and it was worth the wait.Very smooth, flavorful easy to sip.Its now about 27 years old and has aged nicely .

Very good aroma, nice color. I would prefer a stronger and more "special" taste.

Can you make a stop to any of the Caribbean islands, visit the Tortuga Rum Cake factory and be lured into the free tasting of the Tortuga 'rums' ? Not really, so let's get straight to business. The Tortuga Premium Gold 12 year has a strong alcohol taste and a strong burn at the end, so quite a disappointment for a 12 year old aged rum. Mixed it with Coke and there is a slimmer of hope left.
