I'm rating this is a mixer, not a sipping rum. As a mixer, it's excellent. Oh if only I could get this in the states. Fantastic for cocktails to give drinks an interesting character. If you prefer to taste your rums in your cocktails, this is one of my favorites. The closest I've found to this in the states is Don Q Gold. Not quite the same, but similar flavor profiles.

Wish I could get this where I live. It would be my standard mixing rum.

I first tried this rum on Grand Cayman. It is good on the rocks and better in a mix.Not a sipping rum.
It will add a little kick if drizzled over a Tortuga Rum cake.

Nose - I’m not entirely chased away...it’s not too shabby. Light and easy, mostly molasses, caramel, toffee, leavened by the light notes of coconut shavings, honey and nougat. Some dark fruit - raisins, blackberries, ripe cherries.

Palate - Again, light, with some firmness lending it a bit of authority and solid tastes. Nougat, honey and coconut, like those white Ferrer or Raffaello confectioneries my much-loved chocoholic daughter can’t get enough of. There’s some sharper fruits here -- ripe pears, apples, berries -- as well as a touch of salted caramel and molasses, and brown sugar in a hot latte. Nice.

Finish - Warm oily, sweet, smooth. No problem. Honey again, coconut shavings, a raisin or two, but for me to tell you there’s more would be reaching.

Thoughts - Given my despite for its blandly inoffensive white sibling, I didn’t walk in here expecting much. But it wasn’t half bad - a completely unadventurous and reasonably tasty light sipping rum. Maybe it’s sold in the right places after all.

The smoothest tasting rum with a Caribbean aroma. You can't go wrong with any line of tortuga unfortunately it's not available in many state in the U.S. i find the gold here and there but not the 12 and 141 or coconut those are my top picks

This is not a sipper or on the rocks. This is a classic mixing rum

I purchased this on the island of Grand Cayman, a few years back and enjoyed it. I recently found it again in the Bahamas! Usually associated with their luscious rum cakes found, it seems, on every Caribbean Island, Tortuga rum has a nice flavor that can be enjoyed neat but ideally suited, mixed in soda. Try baking your own rum cake using Tortuga rum...ah, paradise

Sugar: 0 to 5 gpl. This is a good rum for mixed drinks, especially rum and coke. Lots of flavor that blends well with Coke or in Pina Coladas. It's not available in Canada and when I am in the Caymans, or on a cruise I pick up a couple of bottles. I would not classify this as a sipping rum, but for a bar rum it is a very good value.

Not bad. Has a little bite to it, so I tend to mix.
