Not as good as aged rum, a good dark rum and only $15 a bottle
Definitely worth picking up when in grand Cayman.
Always enjoy a dark rum with its molasses flavor combined with charred oakiness, vanilla and toasted marshmallow hints. A one liter bottle will set you back $24 dollars US, in the Bahamas! Great used for baking, mixing and can also be enjoyed neat.
This is a good Dark rum but not great. It's not as smooth as it should be for a dark rum.
Can you make a stop to any of the Caribbean islands, visit the Tortuga Rum Cake factory and be lured into the free tasting of the Tortuga 'rums' ? Not really, so let's get straight to business. The Tortuga Dark has a very strong alcohol taste and a nasty burn at the end, so not recommended to be a neat sipper.

A drinkable over proof rum! 8 out of 10
I am a fan of the Tortuga brand of rums and rum cakes. With this rum they did it again but on another level! This is the FIRST over proof rum that I find drinkable and enjoyable as a sipper.
If you're on the tougher side you can sip this rum neat. But, its just as good on the rocks. It can also be used as a mixer. At 140 proof that may be a good idea... I drank both neat and on the rocks and woke up to a raging hangover. It's strong stuff.
It has a strong alcohol and nose, the finish is also alcohol and oak but its unlike the gasoline flavors found in other over proof rums. This is a cleaner finish.
There's a lot of spice with a hint of molasses.
