Austrian here.

What we call "Inländer Rum" ist no Rum and was created with artificial flavors back in times when real rum was very hard to come by.

the stuff is usually used as a baking ingredient, or for flavouring punch during xmas.

It also goes well in small amounts with coke and hot tea - its what youll get when you order tea with rum at your skiing holiday.

Its not bad, but its simply not a Rum, so don't rate it as one

Inländer rum is not real rum and that is fine, as long as everyone understands this fact and judges inländer rum for what it is.
Personally, I quite like some inländer rums for baking and for hot beverages (grog or tea with rum). Especially in baking, I am so used to artificial rum aromas, that they probably classify as a comfort food for me.
Mautner is not my favourite inländer rum.
Neat, it has a strange bubblegummy flavour to it, which I assume is meant to be cinnamon or nutmeg. Cinnamon bubblegum might be a close match. It is also a bit too alcoholic in its flavour. I would not drink it neat.
Mautner is fine with hot water or tea and while I would prefer most other inländer rums, I would not refuse to drink it as grog or as a tea spice.
Overall, an interesting experience, but not really recommended.

Riecht nach Lack.
Scharfer Alkohol mit Zuckerkulör Nachhall.
Künftig nicht einmal im Punsch oder Glühwein.
Zum Backen vielleicht brauchbar und auch gedacht.
