This feels a little washed down compared to how I'd imagine the original to be. It feels safer, with the distinctive characteristics of Jamaican, Guyanese and Barbadian rums cut in half.
Nice on the nose, smooth in the mouth, with a brandy like afterburn, and a long unsweetened, dry, peppery after taste.
Lacks the character I was hoping for. If you can't afford the genuine stuff, just buy Pussers.
Great molasses aroma and little pepperiness. In the mouth i get the caramel sweet notes and some slight kick. The finish is not so long, but is good. Great navy style rum. Definitely will buy again.
Smells of warm carmel with a hint of pepper. Some fresh fruit on the nose as well.
It's a weird thing, to taste the upfront Demerara rum with some Barbados coming in ending with Jamaican funk. Quite the experience taste-wise. It has definitely peeked my interest into the navy style of rum and I need more experience. I have no benchmark for this style.
Comparing it to other styles though, for me it is a 7. Interesting enough to get a full sized bottle, but nothing to write home about.
This rum contains my three favourite regions. Jamaica, Barbados and Guyana so my review is heavily subjective. When it comes to cocktails it makes a mean El Presidente.
Comparing this to the Pussers Gunpowder proof Navy Rum - there is no contest.
This beverage has only the name of the navy rum, nothing else. Lack of flavour, body and depth. An overall disappointment, not to be repeated.
This is a fairly solid rum but the problem for me is that it doesn't stand out from the crowd. I found it to be quite sweet but not very unique and i feel that i have tasted this type of rum many times before. Worth a try though.
This navy variation has fine price. For this money you have full, heavy taste with strong spicy. The rum is more sweet than I like but there is no added sugar, so I say yes, it is good.
Nose: Toasted caramel developing into a swell of pineapples, tamarind, fried ginger, oyster sauce, and grilled chili. Sweet and umami with undercurrents of sesame oil, honeyed apples, and what seems to be acetone.
Palate: The mouthfeel is velvety but slightly grips near the end of the development. The pineapples and acetone are up front, laced with a subtle minerality before leading to bitter oak, sesame oil, fried bread crumbs, and molasses. Near the end are sugar-coated plums and nutty cupcakes.
Finish: Medium length but fades slowly, with all spice, burnt popcorn kernels, and cola.

Nice notes of chocolate and coffee.
"Quite bitter with lots of treacly molasses and a real array of spices β lots of oak and ginger, with a touch of cinnamon and anise. Finish wise it is a reasonable length."

A decent compromise 7 out of 10
Kind of smoke, scotch-y (or funky Jamaican rum) notes on the nose up front. The actual taste is significantly milder than the smell, with the guyanese toffee notes and barbadoan smoothness. That said, it still has some bite to it (in contrast to what others have written), it's not as bland as the typical sweet spanish style rum, it definitely has a slight pepperiness and challenge to it. Not an exceptional rum, but a decent compromise for someone looking to step beyond the sweet Spanish style into the wider world of rums.
