Spider Island Light rum, a rum which starts with the same base ingredients as the Original Rum, but contains some of the fringes of the tails phase of its distillation. The distillery also adds some molasses that’s caramelized at a very high temperature before it’s bottled unaged at 80 proof. They say the high temperature in the caramelization process causes the sugar to break down and impart smokiness rather than sweetness.

I have had a run of mediocre rums lately. This Spider island is good rum. Because of all the garbage I have been drinking I don't know if this is really a 7 or I think it's a 7 because it is so much better than the last Largo Bay and Bacardi offerings I choked down. So, I give it a 7. It might really be a 6. You can tell it is small batch rum. Great color. Great smokey nose Lots of smoke, mollasses and a hint of vanilla. Smooth, balanced and not complex. ^The finish is medium. Sippable and tasty. If you love smoke you will love this. Handcrafted in small batches in Maine. You will like it.
