Fine rum. More bite than I am used to from this extraordinary distillery. The bite is nice. Sherry and spice notes. Cinnamon and vanilla. Lots of depth. Long finish. Compared to the other dark Pappa's Pilar rums it is juat a little out of balance. I mean off by just a fraction. Not the same mouth feel. Don't get me wrong. This is a great sipping rum. It speaks to the quality of this distillery that their weakest rum is a solid 8. Good stuff. I may be back later to revisit my score because I am going to continue to drink this outstanding offering.
Thought success would be based more on marketing and the whole Hemingway nod.
Though a bit sweet and over extracted, I enjoyed the glass I had and wouldn’t mind another.
Cheers to Papa!
This is a wonderful Rum. Almost a butterscotchy flavor on the pallet and great ending of vanilla, caramel/butterscotch. Another great Rum from Papas Pillar.. one of my favorites especially now I know it’s limited edition and found a couple bottles close by..
Personally I didn’t think it was as good as the original dark, but very smooth and tasty all the same.
In my top 3-5 rums. It’s very similar to a sweet, sweet bourbon....flavorful with no burn on the back end.
I like the Pilar dark, but like this variety even more. Aging in whiskey barrels adds a bit of complexity. Not as mapley sweet as the dark.
Bought this on a recommendation from a friend. I am not a coffee drinker and has a coffee taste to me. I can find plenty other rums in the $50 range that I would buy before this one.
Nice vanilla start, just a hint of oak, overall well balanced. This rum tastes more like rum than some of the other blends I have had.
Love how the taste is Sweet butter brown sugar. I’ve read that it has a Maple Syrup flavor or taste; I get none of that. I first had this in Florida where it quickly became my favorite. I can’t keep a bottle in the house because my mother in law and sister in law drink it all!
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Another Nice One from Papas Pilar

I have always enjoyed the Papas Pillar selection and this was no exception. One can taste the different casks of sherry and port. There was a bit of an after-burn, but nothing too over powering where you would want to mix it.
