Haiti | Aged

Barbancourt 5 Star Reserve Especiale 8-Year Rum is agricultural, meaning it's produced from fermented sugar cane juice rather than the more typical molasses. The sugar cane juice is double distilled and aged for eight years in Limousin oak barrels.

Dupré Barbancourt created the Barbancourt rum recipe in 1862 in Haiti, where the rum is still produced today. A French national, Barbancourt incorporated traditional French methods including double-distillation in the process.

This would be a great place to start trying agricole. It's probably the most similar to molasses rum you'll find in the agricole group. Absolutely delicious. Don't expect a normal rum though this has the grassy funk you would expect from an agricole but it's still so smooth. It can really transform some cocktails and give a twist you weren't expecting but is probably better when sipped on it's own.

View: Pours light golden brown.

Nose: Faint hints of burnt vanilla, almost charred smell

Initial Tasting: No distinct flavors to pinpoint; almost medicine-like; a bit harsh on the palate

Body: Burnt sugar that doesn't last

Fade: Not much on the back end

Overall: Not my cup of tea whatsoever. Could be a good rhum to mix with; preferably with a fruit juice and other spirits.

Goûté par hasard et adopté. Assez riche, équilibré entre douceur et impétuosité sèche, mais tout de même 43°. Boisé et fruité. Beau produit.

I liked this one. Recommended by the local seller and he was right.

Una piacevole sorpresa.
Preso quasi per caso, si rivela un rum tutt'altro che semplice e scontato.
Leggeri caramello e vaniglia, miele che compare a tratti.
Finale secco, poco persistente.
Non stufa e si lascia bere con garbo.
Rum elegante e inaspettato.

Nice rum agricole. Tasty both straight up and in coke. Great value for money.
Edit: After the bottle being opened for a few weeks the rum began to have a wierd smell and taste to it. Ended up giving the bottle to a friend who mixes it with coke. Went down from a 7 to a 6 because of this.

Just great. I've tried different alcohol from different countries, but this one has impressed me. The smell, the color, the taste is just off the chain. I'd recommend this to anyone, and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
PS: I think if it was more expensive, people would appreciate it more

A classic but somewhat different rhum. Do not dismiss this rum because you do not like agricole.

Has very little by way of vegetal/grassy notes. An excellent complex sipping rum.

You don't have to drown this one with fruit juices to make it palatable.
On par with the basic Appleton "Special Gold" as a mixer but definitely much harsher and lacking all the smoothness of the Appleton
For those who think that a burning throat means an alcohol is good and strong.
