One kickass bottle of rum that will knock you down if you don't keep your guard up. The amount of alcohol in this drink makes it a though rum to sip neat. First the alcohol burn will hit you, a prickly sensation. Once you get past that there is a wonderful flavor to be found with a lots of overripe fruits notes.
For the more casual drinkers, still an awesome bottle of rum. Try it in cocktails or with a big chunk of ice where it will still pack a punch.
This rum is a true aromatic bomb. Be careful, do not take the nose directly to the glass, the aromas are too powerful. Alcohol is also very present. It's a rum that is strong and not for kids !! A perfect match with intense dark chocolate !! It seems that he is very good also in mixology.
For the price, a bargain !!
This has a lovely nose and flavor, ripe bananas, slight leather and caramel. My imagination thinks the hogo was there, but the search continues.
Couple drops of bitters. Bit of vermouth. A delicious Manhattan.
Nose - Interesting jamaican hogo funk with leather, barbequed meat, demerara sugar, vanilla, pineapple, overripe mangos with a touch of smoke. Taste - Strong alcohol awakens the taste buds with dark and spicy spices, vanilla and butterscotch. Lighter fruit flavours of grilled pineapple, overripe banana, apple, stone fruits, oak and leather. The finish is medium with a lingering touch of syrup, overripe mango, dried fruits and spices.
A good value alternative to the high end navy strength and overproofs.
Molasses and pineapple notes with buttery finish with hint of pineapple
This is truly the quintessential Jamaican rum for mixing up a classic Mai Tai cocktail. A blend based on the pot still produced navy rum recipes of colonial Jamaica. 114 proof with the "hogo" you'd expect from the esthers.
Nothing extreme but a standout, not my favourite but it's a must try the funk and weight is above the rest, you can tell it's classically Jamaican and yet so different just from the smell.
a bit bitter..and it got ATTITUDE
"Smith and Cross Navy Strength rum review and cocktail suggestions by A Mountain of Crushed Ice"
The smell is rich, sugary, heavy molasses.
"It leaves a long lasting tingle on the tongue and in the roof of your mouth. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I expected to much after reading the reviews. It's very drinkable neat, the high abv was less present in the taste as expected. I didn't really recognize the fruity flavours and found the aftertaste nice but quite short. This was after the first glass, if the next glasses lead tot another point of view i'll update the review.
