Warm, brown sugar, raisins… mmmmmmm. I love a good navy rum, and this is that. Bottled slightly over proof, it packs a lot of flavor. Even for a Jamaican rum, which is saying something. This will stand up to your cola. It will stand up to your painkiller, even. In a very pleasant way. I drink this from the bottle, but then, I’m a little crazy.

Nose - Interesting jamaican hogo funk with leather, barbequed meat, demerara sugar, vanilla, pineapple, overripe mangos with a touch of smoke. Taste - Strong alcohol awakens the taste buds with dark and spicy spices, vanilla and butterscotch. Lighter fruit flavours of grilled pineapple, overripe banana, apple, stone fruits, oak and leather. The finish is medium with a lingering touch of syrup, overripe mango, dried fruits and spices.

A good value alternative to the high end navy strength and overproofs.

I tried a jamaican rum for a first time. I couldn't imagine what people talk about, when talking about hogo, high ester funky jamaican so I was curious.
The smell after opening a bottle was like a punch in the face: overripe exotic fruits and maybe glue??
The real kick came after first tasting: I would compare it to an explosion. The heat goes through your throat to stomach immediately. So many flavors that I am left confused, not knowing which I should focus on. Stays in your mouth for a looong period.
Really cool experience, this is something totally different from all other rums I already tried.
It reminds me a lot the 52% plum brandy aged 6 years we have here in Slovakia.

Dark golden colour in a plain bottle. A slight aroma of oak, a hint of whisky. A lot of fire in the mouth but too much of a whisky flavour for me. No sweetness in the glass. Whisky drinking friends all loved it.

Specified for some tiki drinks . Others like the pain killer which it isn’t “prescribed” but goes well. Cobra fang
It’s fine for sipping too. Strong flavor but clean. Some major esters. The flavor more tasty and sweetish. Finishes rich, smooth

Tasted April 21, 2021 at Laka Lono.
Sampled in a Daiquiri form after a quick sip, others around me must have been concerned about its strength of character?
The notes are simple: Tasty!!!!! and a smiley face.
*I promise, my notes have improved since then
Update: July 26, 2023 at Laka Lono Kill Devil rum club
Appearance: swampy clear
Aroma: funk
Flavor: oh my. Dust, metal, sage, deliciousness ❤️❤️❤️

Très bon rapport qualité prix pour ce rhum jamaïcain "funky".

Is it supposed to taste like that?
Not real sure what to say about this one. “Funky” doesn’t begin to describe it.
I’m sure it’s good for something, I just haven’t figure out what. I can’t drink it neat, and it will absolutely ruin a glass of coke. We’ll try it in the Christmas rum balls and see how it goes.
