EN: it's the most Jamaican-style rum I've tried so far and I'm super excited about it, very fruity, very ripe tropical fruits, vanilla and caramel, slightly sweet and long aftertaste and somehow chewy... and above all a well-chosen percentage of alcohol ) it seems that I am attracted to rums that have sufficient alcohol and strong aromas .. delighted
Love the funk on this rum. I could taste it every once in a while throughout the next day. Couldnt get enough
I'm a rookie when it comes to rumtasting. I have tasted a fair share of single malt whisky. So this is my first review! This tastes and smells like how i imagined a piraty old school rum would taste and smell. Be careful when using in cocktails and drinks. Scale down the amount of rum or blend it whit a more tame kind of rum. But when you get the proportions right this truly shines and boosts up any cocktail.
I was very surprised to find that this is a Hampden rum (I had heard others mention that it came from Worthy Park). It is outstanding, to put it bluntly.
When you're looking to mix and create the incredible tiki drinks of old, you need something with real personality - something intense and loaded with flavor (and without all the additives and sweeteners!). You need authentic Jamaican rum.
It is truly excellent when used for classic punches and tiki drinks. Try it in a Jungle Bird, or blended with an aged Martinique for an original Maita'i.
The "Hogo" can be overwhelming for newbies, but to the experienced nose and palate, comes across as layers of over-ripe tropical fruits caramelized in dark sugar. I can pour it into a snifter and experience absolute euphoria for an hour just from smelling it. Highly recommended.
This is like the old Jamaican rums...no caramel or added colours, just a sharp rush of flavour and a searing blast from the high proof. Not to be sipped without adding plenty of water. Beyond the heat, this is a wonderful crisp rum with lingering fruits (think cherries and ripe banana) and none of the overwhelming sweetness. This one brightens up any tiki drink and allows the rum to shine through anything you dress it with. Amazing, breathtaking and unforgettable.
My secret weapon in any tiki drink calling for aged Jamaican rum even great on its own or just in an old fashioned.
As only my second Jamaican rum, S&C blew me away with its unstoppable ester funk and high proof burn. I foolishly sipped some straight out of the just-opened bottle and blew out my taste buds. Then I made a Mai Tai without splitting it with another rum—mistake number two. So why such a high rating? Because when properly yielded, it is masterful in cocktails. Whether blended with a lighter rum, stirred with ginger beer, or balanced with citrus, it’s a superb mixer that manages to both showcase its own unique character and also elevate its fellow ingredients. I will always keep a bottle to represent some of the best in the Jamaican style.
It took me about ten years to find the perfect rum. This is it! A lovely nose. Everything should smell like Smith & Cross. Why not even spice up your boring cereals with this godly aroma! Or replace your Paris cologne with this irresistible aroma! Instant success.
Good to keep in your rotation, sometimes you just want something to warm your insides.
a bit bitter..and it got ATTITUDE

The smell is rich, sugary, heavy molasses.
"It leaves a long lasting tingle on the tongue and in the roof of your mouth. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

“TIGHT! …TIGHT TIGHT!” as one Tuco Salamanca from Breaking Bad would say. Blows the barn doors right down. Bold. Nice banana esthers. Funky. Little bit of caramel, some vanilla. Tropical fruits. Boosh man, this a rum for almost any occasion for me. Just remember to take a breath mint after, you’re gonna smell boozy hahaha. Great for sipping, great in particular for cocktails. Just a wonderful little bad boy.
