I heard that this won Gold at the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America and Silver at the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Tanduay Double Rum is a blend of two aged reserves—16-year-old rum and 5-year-old rum that are aged in the barrel for another two years. I got a chance to try some at Max's South Seas Hideaway in Gand Rapids (their mai tais are pretty good.) Wow! Best sipping rum I've ever tasted. So smooth, no burn. Full of sweet flavor.
Bottle gifted by my friend Joseph. Pours a brownish amber in the glass. Aroma yields cocoa and interesting notes of hay/straw. Banana esters are big here. Lots of toffee and treacle flavors to the upfront bolus of candy sweetness. Cherries. Pie cherries, though. Remarkable thing is the graceful easy-going palate with almost no burn from start to finish. I could guzzle an entire bottle of this without realizing it. But I won't. This may be a very under appreciated gem here.
This rum has such an amazing aroma of fresh banana’s and caramel. The taste is just as good as the aroma, I taste nice notes of cinnamons and a sort of vaguely sweet caramel taste. I definitely recommend this rum.
This is a good aged rum. Very spicy. Reminds me of Christmas. Great for the price.
So wasn't much expecting from local store, then there was this. First sniff is little sharp/alcoholic, second is sweet. Taste is caramel, little sharp edge. Let it breath a little and it's nice, no ice needed, it's well balanced after the breath. Further, banana, caramel and such. Taste is caramel with a little smokey finish, lasts quite long for the price must say. This is an above average rum, with a touch of the higher quality rums, without the hurts of the premium price(don't mix tough, it's really pretty good :) )
This came recommended by a friend and rightly so. This is my third Filipino rum, after the not so likeable Don Papa and Tanduay Gold. This is a different kettle of fish all together. I love the bottle, the colour and the smell. It pours out neatly in a kind of syrupy way. In the glass, again, it smells outstanding. All sorts of tastes come to mind, all of them good. This is equally good for sipping and mixing, outstanding stuff indeed.
