Rather than write it all over again, I decided to just cut/paste my review from the reserva exclusiva version, because I found them to be so similar.

When I first started drinking aged rums, this was my early favorite. I really liked the flavor profile, which is unique, but I'm not able to describe it in words exactly. Its quite sweet, but has more character than other sweet rums like Zacapa 23, which are fairly one-dimensional in flavor. I'd read other reviews here where someone compared it to a liqueur, and I understand what they mean, but don't really agree. If you don't like sweet then this one isn't for you, the added sugar level is very high at 41g, but the flavor has a spiciness that I haven't found in any other rums, but I'm still a relative newby at this. Its also a bargain at about $35 and usually pretty easy to find.

I was very new to rum when I first tasted this, and the similar Diplomatico Seleccion de Familia, so my palate wasn't very discriminating, but to me they tasted almost the same. The Familia has a bit less sugar, but its still fairly sweet and costs $50 vs. $35, so when I finished them both off I bought this one again rather than the Familia. I need to go back and compare them again now that I've tasted other rum styles and see if I would prefer the Familia today.

Similar to the reserva exclusiva, more powerful and complex, less sweet, a good alternative.

Delightful rum! Not as sweet as Reserva (my biggest complaint about that one) and with "deeper" flavors.

Very smooth mouth and throat feel with a slowly warming "botanical" finish. Dark fruit, blackberry, and raisin flavors followed by an almost burnt carmel. Good sweetness profile and no harsh alcohol or tannin notes. Almost perfect rum

Got it for 44€ Feb 2023 @ Bucharest airport. Mid dark colour. Spice in smell, mid-inrensity in aromas. Rum cake with roasted and dried nuts, cocos, coffe, barrique, spice. Complex, seriouse. Darker than Reaerva Excl. And less sweet. Almost cognaci-brandyi.

Příjemné aroma cukrové šťávy, ovoce v medu a sušená švestka. Není důvod ke stížnostem. Nenadchne, ale rozhodně neurazí a to někdy stačí.

Nice dark colour. Really smooth and sweet finish taste. Very strong aroma, vanilla, cherry, black pepper. Excellent price and quality ratio, one of my favourites rums under 100 euro bottles.

I was tired of drinking Captain Morgan's and wondered what good rum might actually taste like. So I found a list of (supposedly) good rums to try online. At that time my local liquor store did not have any Ron Zacapa in stock. So I purchased a bottle of Diplomatico. It was SO much more aromatic and complex than Captain Morgan's. I immediately realized how much richer a rum could be. And IMHO the fragrance and taste were both exquisite.

Now here's the kicker . . . My local store acquired a bottle of Ron Zacapa and I purchased it. DAMN, talk about OVERRATED. My god, this wasn't even rum . . . it was more like liquid candy. Ughh! The moment I tasted it, I wished I had purchased a bottle of Diplomatico. And to add insult to injury the Ron Zacapa cost $9 more!

Admittedly, I'm a novice when it comes to premium rum. Nevertheless, at this moment Diplomatico is my favorite. I will occasionally try other rums from that (imno, stupid) list I found online. But what my experience reveals is, you cannot believe the recommendations you see on the internet. It's quite apparent many of them are paid for by marketing departments. You're a simplistic thinker if you believe a higher price indicates a better rum. A high price can also be part of a marketing strategy.

IMHO, Diplomatico is HIGHLY underrated. Probably because they expend their resources on distillation rather than marketing. And I believe many people are fooled because Diplomatico is reasonably priced. Don't YOU be fooled. Try a bottle and enjoy this fragrant, complex rum for yourself. As for me, my Captain Morgan's days are over. lol

There's a taste on the tip of my tongue that I can't name but really like. I keep wanted to say green peppers... But nah. Not that. Anyone I'm not usually a huge fan of diplomatico and this one has some added sweetness that is very present in the after taste but it comes across initially as a nice dry higher proof rum. I really like it and if it didn't finish so sweet it'd probably be higher, maybe excellent. This is worth a pour for sure.
