I like original diplomatico so I was expecting a lot from this beauty. And thankfully I was not dissapointed! It is not that sweet but supersmooth. On the nose you can smell caramel, vanilla, wood and sherry. In mouth flavours of caramel, sugar cane, tobacco, oak and sherry. Simply awesome.
Rum tasting in the Finnish Lakes District started with a back-to-back testing between a brand new Diplomatico Seleccion de Familia and the all time benchmark Diplomatico Reserva Exclusiva. Very similar tube shaped boxes protecting the bottles. Sturdy bottle with an identical but light brown label design. Identical color with the Reserva Exclusiva. Here similarities end. Seleccion de Familia is much more dry and heavy wine influence to your nose and palate when neat sipped. Smooth but dry ending. Strong nine, but nowhere close to a ten.
The direction of this rum is quite the same as the Reserva Exclusiva.. Smooth, nicely sweet, easy to drink.. a preferred choice for sipping event.. BUT the Selecccion de familia has noticeably stronger tones for your nose and noticeable more intensive taste. I mean it it something like your favorite song.. If you increase the volume you will enjoy it more.
Diplomatico Selección de Familia is very similar than Reserva Exclusiva. Not so big difference just small nuances of taste. But I like Reserva Exclusiva a lot so this one is good one too. :)
I love Diplomatico rums! This is a dryer stronger version of their Reserva Esclusiva; this is 43%abv.
I find this comparable to the Venezuelan Carupano rums, but slightly better. Smells and tastes primarily of oak and molasses, with just enough sweetness to make it great.
By far my favorite of the Diplomatico Rum line. It has a great body, not to mention its smoothness. Go a get a bottle tonight!
Banana, sweet cookies and dark chocolate in the nose. Very smooth in the mouth with honey, still banana and a hint of vanilla. Lasts very very long in the pallate.
Delicious, goes great alone or with mixed drinks. You get a notable banana flavor, a little raisin, but really nice, not a complaint at all.
This is an excellent sipping rum, neat or with ice. It is similar, however, to its little brother in the green bottle (Reserva Exclusiva). Next time I think I will save the $15 and just get the Reserva Exclusiva. Nothing against this rum, it’s just that they made the cheaper one just as good in my opinion.
Very complex and rich rum, undoubtedly Diplomatico style! If you like the Reserva Exclusiva, you are going to like this limited edition from Venezuela!
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
