Dominican Republic | Aged | 46.0% ABV
Ron Esclavo Stauning Whisky Cask Finish 12-Year is a premium quality aged rum with a unique twist, being finished in whisky casks from the Stauning distillery in Denmark. This exclusive finishing process brings forth the perfect balance of wood and sweet flavors, lending a smooth and complex taste to the rum. On the nose, the aroma is rich with vanilla, caramel, toffee, and a hint of oak. It is distilled in the Dominican Republic and aged for 12 years before being bottled at 45% ABV. This is a deliciously exotic and deep expression of rum that is best enjoyed sipping neat or over ice.

Pěkná barva i láhev.
I was very excited to try a combination of sweet rum with some peaty finsh.
Unfortunately I'm quite disapointed. Not even because of the strong peatiness. To be honest I even expected more peat. The Main problem of this rum are the sharp alcohol notes and flavours in both nose and taste. Nose: strong alcohol, brown sugar, raisins, some dried fruits, and finally on the end some peat.
Taste: quite sweet with sharp alcohol flavours with a slightly peaty finish.
After some time the strong alcohol flavours disapear and it's getting a bit smoother.
Ok but not much more.
Rum tasting at home with a good buddy of mine continues with Ron Esclavo XO Stauning Whisky Cask Finish. Nice bottle and label design, very close to the traditional Ron Esclavo XO concept with a fancy matte black label. Mahogany color. Plenty of oak and ridiculous amount of peatiness to your nose and palate when neat sipped. Super strong burn at the end. Whisky lovers can easily add 4 points to my score. Peaty Whisky lovers can add 7 points. Not for me though.

To much smoke 5 out of 10
Nose of whiskey, smoke and vanilla. The taste is smoke with smoke. It is not for me at all.
I love the ordinary XO which I think is a topshelve rum. So I expected a lot from this but I was so disapointed. It is the smoke that dominates all. I taste some of the ordinary XO, but the smoke ruins it all. Perhaps som Whiskylovers can take a step into the Rumworld with this one.
