Dominican Republic | Aged | 46.0% ABV
Ron Esclavo XO Cognac Cask Finish is a premium aged rum that undergoes a six-month finishing period in seasoned cognac barrels to achieve a distinct and refined taste profile. The dark amber-colored spirit boasts an inviting aroma of vanilla, cinnamon, and oak, coupled with hints of caramel and honeyed fruit. On the palate, it delivers a smooth and velvety texture with an array of complex flavors, including toffee, toasted nuts, and dark chocolate, ending with a long finish of spicy dark fruits and smoky oak. Overall, Ron Esclavo XO Cognac Cask Finish is a well-crafted and sophisticated rum that balances sweetness and warmth with a touch of sophistication.

Rum tasting at home with a good buddy of mine continues with Ron Esclavo XO Cognac Cask Finish. Nice bottle and label design, very close to the traditional Ron Esclavo XO concept with a fancy matte black label. Bright mahogany color. Cognac aging and its produced sweetness is nicely masked with the Esclavo XO Rum bouquet of flavors to your nose and palate when neat sipped. Short and sweet burn at the end. So close to a ten, but not this time.
I would say this is a Esclavo XO with added complexity. However a complexity that falls well. Still have the sweetness of vanilla, caramel and butterscotch. But also brings a flavour of cognac in the end. Well worth a try! Update: Fantastic rum!!!

A great rum! 9 out of 10
Many thanks to Joola69 for sharing this with me as part of a rare rum exchange (this is clearly rare, because as of this review Joola69 and I are the only ones to have reviewed this).
Has a nice sweet base, that also smells and tastes of molasses, toffee, cognac, oak, caramel, and butterscotch. Though I'm not generally a huge fan of cognac aging, I think the fact that this is based on the Esclavo XO makes this a very good rum.
