The Depaz Rhum Hors d'Age XO is made from sugar cane instead of molasses. It is a blend of different rums that are between eight and ten years old. The sweetness of the sugar cane juice gives it a particularly mild and pleasant taste. Nosing revelas chocolate and liquorice in the foreground, followed by vanilla and hints of plums. Palate is complex, dry entry with a lot of spicy charred oak which meets fine vanilla notes and fruits. Finish has medium length, bittersweet notes with exotic fruits paired with caramel and oak notes. Real grade is 8,5.
Oh, too much aniseed/liquorice at the start makes you think you're on the sambuca! Luckily it makes way to complex fresh cane juice flavours with a mocha, praline, dry woody finish. Expensive at £70 but you can taste the complexity and appreciate the craft. I'm being kind giving an 8 though. Starts badly, ends well.
Jemná vůně, dřevo, pomeranče. Chuť jemná, nasládlá, lehce dřevitá. Jen ten poměr cena / výkon...
This is delicious. Really, really delicious. Grassy, burny, little bit smokey, little brown sugar but real dry. I’m a big fan. It’s really, really nice.
I’m absolutely not getting liquorice like everyone else.
Sladkost: 1/3

Klasický agricole a klasicky dobrý.
J'ai eu du mal à le boire et en ai fait un rhum arrangé en rajoutant de la vanille et des morceaux de mangue et d'ananas. Depaz fait de très bon rhum mais celui-ci ne me plait pas.
Perfect daily agricole for all palates - smooth and rich with not so long taste but perfect nose !
Compared to the VSOP, this lacks the fiery ness but adds more flavour and depth.
Smell is subtly fruity - like a summer fruit jus - along with the rich sugar cane. Distinctive. The taste quite woody, yet it doesn't overpower the cane, fruit, and the gentle burn. The finish is dry, with wood on the tongue, and the rich summer fruit lingering round the edges, for quite some time.
I thought it would be a better VSOP, but instead it's different. The flavour is richer and more complex, but is it better? Maybe. It is nice, though
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Très beau rhum de dégustation, que j'ai reçu en cadeau d'un ami qui me l'a rapporté directement de la Martinique.
