Compared to the VSOP, this lacks the fiery ness but adds more flavour and depth.
Smell is subtly fruity - like a summer fruit jus - along with the rich sugar cane. Distinctive. The taste quite woody, yet it doesn't overpower the cane, fruit, and the gentle burn. The finish is dry, with wood on the tongue, and the rich summer fruit lingering round the edges, for quite some time.
I thought it would be a better VSOP, but instead it's different. The flavour is richer and more complex, but is it better? Maybe. It is nice, though
The smell is nice, you can easily distinguish aniseed and as Bill wrote in the comment below, it really reminds sambuca. The taste is soft at the beginning, but I miss the "body", it continues directly with a very nice ending, which is woody and you can taste orange in chocolate.
I am convinced, that somebody can enjoy this rum.
Oh, too much aniseed/liquorice at the start makes you think you're on the sambuca! Luckily it makes way to complex fresh cane juice flavours with a mocha, praline, dry woody finish. Expensive at £70 but you can taste the complexity and appreciate the craft. I'm being kind giving an 8 though. Starts badly, ends well.
The Depaz Rhum Hors d'Age XO is made from sugar cane instead of molasses. It is a blend of different rums that are between eight and ten years old. The sweetness of the sugar cane juice gives it a particularly mild and pleasant taste. Nosing revelas chocolate and liquorice in the foreground, followed by vanilla and hints of plums. Palate is complex, dry entry with a lot of spicy charred oak which meets fine vanilla notes and fruits. Finish has medium length, bittersweet notes with exotic fruits paired with caramel and oak notes. Real grade is 8,5.

Very good aged agricole 8 out of 10
Aroma - smooth with fruits, caramel and apple tones. Taste is also smooth with wood and grass, nicely rounded. Aftertaste could be a bit longer. 8,5 points.
