I can appreciate this Four Square rum. For the price point $52 at Total Wine it has a nice nose, color, mouthfeel and aftertaste. Dry, spicy and woodsy but hints of floral and fruit. Not for those who like sweeter style rums. Having rated many ESC Forecasks it gets an 8. If I had not a 9. It is a bourbon cask rum. With a Madeira finish.
This bottle can match up to the FS ECS release for a more afordable price.
Just an amazing rum
I like it in a rom and Coke. One of my go to for that drink
This is how I imagine how good rum should smell and taste - Punch cake. If you would like start exploring Foursquare ECS releases, but dont know if its worth the money, try this first. It reflects very well what Richard Seale is doing there for more then a half of the cost. A must have for dry rum lovers. It beats more expensive rums.
Nose - mulled wine with spice, dark chocolate, honey and raisins.
Taste - dry as all Foursquare products but you can still experience sweet notes. Dried fruits, red wine, honey, dark chocolate and spice. Warms very well. Good fruity finish.
In my opinion there could be more prominent smoke / oak notes. That would be a taste perfection.
The Doorly's line of rums is supposed to be the little brother line compared to the Four Square line of distinction rums from Four Square. This 14 YO and it's brother, the 12 YO have nothing to apologize for. They are worthy of serious consideration, even against the Four Square line. Aged in white oak barrels, with a ABV of 48%, this is a premium sipping rum.
Incredibly good. Has a very natural, dark, oaky flavour to it, on the dry side but not that dry, sweet spot for me. Also dark chocolate, brown sugar, honey, vanilla, spices, nuts, apple and some dried fruit. Quite sweet as well, but in a natural way. Woody flavour stands out the most. Very easy to drink for 48% ABV, really smooth but with a deep intensity. Super rich and refined flavours, all in perfect harmony. Will always keep a bottle of this one in my cabinet.
Wonderful rum and easily comparable to the ECS releases.
The rum displays all the hallmark traits of Foursquare DNA with superb construction. Less vibrant (hot) than the 12 but more refined, think jazz v acid jazz....
There will always be a bottle in the cabinet.
Aside from the great smell this rum has, the moment the first drop touches your tongue is when the real journey starts. A lot of pleasant flavours pass your tastebuds and allthough the relatively high alcohol percentage doesnโt go unnoticed, it is one smooth sipper. Comes as close to the Foursquares as you can go.
Woody oak notes dominate initially giving to some fruit.
"Lots of ginger and spicy oak on the initial entry. There is a slightly bDoorly's Fine Old Barbados Rum Aged 14 Years rum review by the fat rum pirateitter note in the oak notes. A slight astringency. Finish wise we are left with a spicy and slightly heated end to the rum."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Rich amber color and nice fragrances. Needs ice to tame it but very drinkable. A definite step up from the XO which was my first Doorlyโs.
