Zajímavý chuťově i vůní. Nevím jak jej přesně charakterizovat, chutná mi docela dost, ale přece jen XO 40% je pro mne jemnější a chutnější. Snad se to obrátí a tento mi bude chutnat více.

A blend of pot and column still that was aged in ex-Bourbon barrels for 14 years in Barbados.

Smell: Like all the better 14 year old bottlings, the rum starts with a deep caramel sweetness and lots of dried fruits, grape seeds. The wood from the bourbon barrel with light notes of vanilla is noticeable.
Some earthy barrel aromas and peppery notes are deeper in the glass. There are still hazelnuts with a few orange zests and very subtle leather aromas.
A very good smell that lacks some heavy flavors to be more complex. It is not one of the best Foursquares, but one of the better ones.

Taste: Caramel sweetness with dried fruits and light wood starts on the palate. Vanilla from the bourbon barrel is very present. Then the spiciness increases and the rum develops more woody and with more orange zest. Slight bitterness comes from the tannins and the taste of grape seeds. It becomes drier and woody in the finish, also slightly spicy. The wood becomes so bright that it almost reminds me of cardboard.

Aftertaste: orange zest, white oak, dry fruits, tannins, vanilla

A nice rum from the standard range. It is in the upper midfield and unfortunately does not come close to the best ECS bottlings. The barrel strength is well chosen and gives it a certain balance. It is very suitable for beginners who want to develop further.

Really complex rum. Let set for 15 minutes and aroma strong alcohol smell with wood. Added ice waited couple minutes and aroma of dried fruit comes out of nowhere to add to the smell. Taste on the rocks was dry with moderate alcohol burn but at the same time really smooth which itself seems to be a contradiction. Initial taste was dried fruit and vanilla but that quickly and magically turned into a woody and peppery almost ginger aftertaste. I give up trying to figure out this rum. All I know is that it is damn good but cannot go higher than an 8 as the 48% ABV is just too much for me even though it is smooth given the high alcohol content.

Tonight’s Rum, Doorly’s 14 Year. A true 14 year Rum. I picked up this treasure at The Whisky Exchange in Westminster England (London). I was very sad that I could only bring back one bottle to Canada, there were so many more. The Black Tot Last Consignment at 900 Pounds was a bit pricey for me… I even featured the Black Tot Rum in my novel “The Last Tot.” But let’s get to the Doorly’s.

In the glass this Rum looks rich. Dark and it leaves nice fingers in the glass after a swirl; it coats the inside glass quite smoothly. I find the nose is a bit soft for an aged Rum. I dare say I it has a mild airplane model glue kind of bouquet to it. Yet underneath that is honey, vanilla and coconut. I like it.

The first hit on the lips has a medium pepper to it. Rums drinkers will barely blink. In the mouth this Rum is rich in flavour and a true gem of complex flavours. I get vanilla, coconut, brown sugar, and bitter pineapple. After a few more sips I also get orange peel and a token of molasses. It’s nice, fulfilling blend. In the throat the heat is mild to medium; sip after sip, the essence is remains rich and lovable. I find the finish is a bit dry for an aged Rum, but then if I remember correctly that FourSquare Distillery who make Doorly’s in Barbados, don’t add any sugar to the final product. As I continue sipping, I keep comparing this Rum to the FourSquare 12 year Dominion Series (even grabbed my Series 2 for an A/B comparison. The Doorly’s 14 year has richer flavours, but less Ruminess if that makes any sense; the Dominion is more Rummy.

I the end, I like this Rum and give it a 9/10. For me it would have been a 10/10 if the finish was a bit sweeter. You, of course may have an alternate opinion. Best served neat. This is number 383 of my 500 Rum goal. Cheers everyone.

Smells very sweet, caramel, vanilla and dried fruits. The taste has a nice burn but gets smooth very fast. At first it's the caramel, vanilla and lots of fruit. After it settles the wood tones it down nicely into a complex mix of flavours.

It's an exiting rum to drink, pricewise around 60/70€.
It's one that I will keep in my (little) collection.

Beautiful bottle and box. Tasty rum, refined taste for experienced rum gourmets. Amber color, slightly sweet. Pleasant taste on the tongue, noticeable alcohol strength.

The brand Doorly’s was founded in 1908 by Martin Doorly & Company, but is since 1992 owned and some years later produced by Foursquare and Mr. Richard Seale.
This 14yo Doorly’s is a blend of Pot and Column distilled rum. The rum has been aged in ex-bourbon casks plus that a small part of the blend was aged in ex-Madeira casks.
The aroma is woody, spicy, fruity and intense with hints of vanilla and caramel.
In mouth and at the palate it’s woody, spicy and fruity as well with tastes of vanilla, caramel, oak, coffee, chocolate, bourbon, pepper and ginger.
The rather long finish is woody and spicy with tastes of vanilla, oak, chocolate and tobacco.
Overall a really great, complex and well balanced rum.

how much sweetness you can achieve without adding sugar. Fantastic choice for every fan of the spanish style and for 60 Euros frankly a steal.
Foursqare has yet to disappoint me with any of their offerings.

Everything you want you get from this aged Bajan. And bottles are readily available compared to the Foursquare exceptional editions. Full bodied with a great balance between fruit, spice and woody bourbon sweetness.

The Doorly's 14 is a Barbados rum from the Foursquare Distillery, which was allowed to store in bourbon barrels for about 14 years and then gets its finish in Madeira barrels. It is a blend of column and pot style rums. Slightly diluted, it is bottled without dyes and sugar or filtration with 48% alcohol. The bottle is typical Foursquare and with the Doorly's label a bit more playful and cheerful.

On the nose, the rum shows strong caramel notes with a fruity touch. Vanilla and burnt wood are also there. Classic Foursquare but everything a little lighter and fresher than my ESC 2007. But also less complexity. On the palate, the rum has a lot of wood with caramel, some fruit and clear bourbon and roasted aromas. A spicy rum that goes into the finish with the intense wood note which remains present for a long time.

A great rum, which clearly surpasses the 12 years matured Doorly's, but at the same time still has a lot of air up to the ESC series from Foursquare. An own rum, which can convince. If you like a lot of barrel influence, this is the right place for you. A bit too expensive to buy and therefore a solid 8 like the 12years.
