After 25 years in Bourbon cask and 1.5 years in Teeling whisky cask, the aroma and taste are noticeably subdued, almost as if life evaporated from it. It is a good thing they bottle this at 51%, otherwise it would lose all flavor whatsoever. Bourbon cask gives it familiar chocolate taste, the Teeling cask was supposed to resuscitate this spirit and give it a bit of fruit note, but it did not do much of anything. Otherwise a wooden note and ethanol show in the background. I paid 97€ for this bottle which is a good price for 27y, but you get what you pay for.

Many thanks to Joola69 for sharing this with me as part of a rare rum exchange.

I usually really like Plantation rums. Although this isn't bad, I feel it has a bit too much bourbon influence for my personal liking.

Smells and tastes of bourbon, molasses, oak, spice, and whiskey. Too much bourbon, and too dry to be great for my personal liking.

this was my black friday bargain and i got it for 62€... i wasn‘t sure what to expect from a rum with 51,1% alcohol, but i was really surprised how smooth it tastes! this is one of the best balanced rums i ever drank. the smell is also really nice, not at all harsh. you smell it and hope that the taste will keep up... and it does! all thumbs up 👍

For this plantation, rum from Panama was stored for 25 years in bourbon barrels and then another 1.5 years in Ferrand barrels to finally get its finish for 6 months in Teeling whisky barrels. Then it was bottled as a single cask with 51.1% in a limited edition. No additives are known. The dark rum comes in the plantation classic bottle shape and design which is actually always appealing. I have the bottle 254 from the barrel with the number 05.

The rum is a bit spicy in the nose and needs a few minutes. A lot of barrel notes come through. Oak, smoke, some vanilla and more. The rum should definitely get time and stay in the glass first. On the palate it becomes clear that the rum has stored for a long time. The tropical 25 years in bourbon barrels bring many wood notes. The rum is wonderfully oily and creamy. It comes sweetness and a nice nutty spice. Smoke and some fruit bind the individual components and accompany the woody dry finish. Whisky notes resonate easily without imposing themselves. The 51.1% are noticeable but well integrated. The alcohol requires a certain attention. The finish is long-lasting and with intense smoke, nut and peppery oak.

The rum is complex full-bodied and has many intense barrel notes which it presents dry. Here you actually get 27 years for less than 100 euros. Tell that to the whisky drinker you trust. The whisky finish is very subtle and for me rather unnecessary with such an old rum. It would be nice if Plantation also publishes a bottling without cognac storage.

What an explosion of taste. The Irish whiskey mixes so very well with the rum tastes. This suprised me.

síla 51% je cítit ve vůni, pikantní a přitom příjemná ovocná, chuť sladká, ostrá a ta čokoláda, výborný, krásný dojezd, další paráda

I've come to expect quite some afterburn from the Single Casks, so it didn't come as a surprise that this 51.1% packed a punch. Needed to rest a few minutes in the glass and don't be ashamed if you add a drop of water. Heavy oak flavour, complex and quite dry. If your're not really into Plantation Rum I wouldn't spend the money (£100), but in my opinion it was well worth it.

This is a very generous 9. You'd expect a bit more complexity for its age but it's all there in subtle, well-balanced quantities. Great nose and taste. Not cheap but for the price you can do far worse. Good slow sipper.
